Kurzfassung: How are sovereignty and sexuality entangled in contemporary international politics? What understandings of sovereignty and sexuality inform contemporary theories and foreign policies on development, immigration, terrorism, human rights, and regional integration? How specifically is the 'homosexual' figured in these theories and policies to support or contest traditional understandings of sovereignty? 'Queer International Relations' puts international relations scholarship and transnational/global queer studies scholarship in conversation to address these questions and their implications for contemporary international politics.

    Schlagwort(e): Stadtgeschichte
Kurzfassung: In 2008 for the first time the majority of the planet's inhabitants lived in cities and towns. Becoming globally urban has been one of mankind's greatest collective achievements over time and raises many questions. How did global city systems evolve and interact in the past? How have historic urban patterns impacted on those of the contemporary world? And what were the key drivers in the roller-coaster of urban change over the millennia - market forces such as trade and industry? Rulers and governments? Competition and collaboration between cities? Or the urban environment and demographic forces? This pioneering comparative work by fifty leading scholars drawn from a range of disciplines offers the first detailed comparative study of urban development from ancient times to the present day. The Handbook explores not only the main trends in the growth of cities and towns across the world but also many of the essential themes in the making and remaking of the urban world

Kurzfassung: How are urban sacred spaces transforming in Poland and Germany? What is the role of social memory and politics in this process? What is the nature of "old" and "new" sacred spaces? In this book, the authors revise the concepts used so far in the context of changing Polish and German Christianity and its secularisation (and de-secularisation), referring to new sacred spaces and redefining the old ones. About the editors: Maciej Kowalewski and Anna Ma?gorzata Królikowska (both from the University of Szczecin) work together on the research project entitled “Resacralisation and desacralisation of urban spaces. Transforming sacred places in Poland and Germany”. Maciej Kowalewski has a PhD in sociology; he teaches and conducts research in the fields of urban studies. Anna M. Królikowska also has a PhD in sociology; the scope of her interests embraces religion, culture, politics and their references to individual and collective consciousness.

Kurzfassung: The Oxford Handbook of Islamic Theology provides a comprehensive and authoritative survey of the current state of the field. It provides a variegated picture of the state of the art and at the same time suggests new directions for future research. Part One covers the various strands of Islamic theology during the formative and early middle periods, rational as well as scripturalist. To demonstrate the continuous interaction among the various theological strands and its repercussions (during the formative and early middle period and beyond), Part Two offers a number of case studies. Part Three covers Islamic theology during the later middle and early modern periods. Part Four addresses the impact of political and social developments on theology through a number of case studies. Part Five considers Islamic theological thought from the end of the early modern to the modern period.
