Abstract: This informative monograph focuses on the city of Toyota, located in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Aside from the fact that most Toyota passenger vehicles are produced there, generally little is known about its reality. Since the 1960s, the city has continuously attracted numerous jobseekers from distant rural areas. Owing to years of stable employment and settlement within local communities, once-new workers gradually build strong ties with their neighbours and actively participate in residential activities. This pattern of settlement provides a unique example of long-prosperous industrial cities, which deserves discussion against a backdrop of the present “de-industrializing” urban economies. Unfortunately, this favourable situation is now changing, despite the regional economy’s steady recovery from the 2008 financial crisis. Addressing this paradox is the main focus of the present book. The upgrading of the Toyota Production System and concomitant widening class disparity are damaging local ties under severe pressure from global competition. Other suppressing factors are driven by sociological conditions, such as aging, declining marriage rates and birth rates. By comparing two sets of survey data, from 2009 and 2015, and performing fieldwork research in two communities that once were “new towns”, the book seeks to provide an understanding of the present situation of this unusual industrial city. At the same time, a unique theoretical perspective is revealed that does not fit the mould of either the Chicago School or the new urban sociology.

Abstract: This reference work addresses the ideas that shape social work. Much of the social work literature addresses questions of theory and ethics separately, so that the body of thought that is represented in social work scholarship and research creates a distinction between them. However, the differences between these categories of thought can be somewhat arbitrary. For example, feminist theory and feminist ethics are often interlinked, as can be environmental theory and ethics, or post-structural and postmodern theory and ethics. This volume seeks to go beyond this simple separation of categories. Although it recognises that questions of theory and ethics may be addressed distinctly, the connections between them can be made evident and drawn out by analysing them alongside each other. Social work's use and development of theory can be understood in two complementary ways. First, theory from the social sciences and other disciplines can be applied for social work; second, considered, systematic examinations of practice have enabled theory to be developed out of social work. These different approaches are usually referred to as 'theory for practice' and 'practice theory'. The advancement of social work theory occurs often through the interplay between these two dimensions, through research and scholarship in the field. Similarly, social work ethics draw on principles and concepts that have their roots in philosophical inquiry and also involve applied analysis in the particular issues with which social workers engage and their practices in doing so. In this way social work contributes to wider debates through advancement of its own perspectives and knowledge gained through practice. Theory and Ethics of Social Work offers a unique approach by bringing together the complementary dimensions of theory with each other and at the same time with ethical research and scholarship. In this way it presents an analysis of the ideas of social work in a way that enables connections between them to be identified and explored. This reference is essential reading for social work practitioners, researchers, policy-makers, academics and students, as well as an invaluable resource for universities, research institutes, government ministries and departments, major non-governmental organisations, and professional associations of social work.

Abstract: This book analyzes the importance of informal social protection provided by religious institutions such as madrassas in a low-income country such as Pakistan. This book explains that Madrassas are religious schools that have existed in many Muslim countries for centuries and contributed significantly to preserving, forming, and extending human knowledge in medieval times. Further, madrassas are now more commonly viewed as the providers of a narrow education, supporting religious fundamentalism, that may lead to terrorism. However, this book asserts that education is not the only function performed by madrassas. They are a significant source of welfare support for the vulnerable and marginalized households in many low-income countries. This book helps the readers to understand the concept of informal social protection not conceptualized previously. In addition, its various attributes and institutions providing such a form of welfare worldwide are explained in detail; analyzing the usefulness of such a form of social protection would benefit readers of social policy, national governments, and international donor/aid agencies. This book also provides a prescriptive framework for integrating formal and informal social protection. This book provides a new "Multiple Regime Framework", for identifying various regimes in one country at one point in time by applying a novel data collection and analysis methodology. The application of this framework would be of particular interest to social policy scholars, national governments, and donor/aid agencies because it will result in better targeting of social protection policies in the wake of fiscal constraints. Lastly, this book provides a novel data collection and analysis strategy that will benefit the reader of research methodology, development consultants, donor agencies, and policy practitioners interested in using artificial intelligence to make informed and targeted policy decisions.

Abstract: This book investigates the impact of patient-centered care (PCC) for older adults with chronic conditions and presents new evidence concerning its effects on the care process and health outcomes. The book highlights the impact of PCC on elderly chronic disease patients’ health experiences and demonstrates that PCC is associated with better performance in delivering care to this group of patients. The PCC approach also provides opportunities for improving the delivery of cancer care, although patient-centered oncology care is still in its infancy and evidence on its effectiveness is scant. The book also includes a systemic review and meta-analysis of connections between PCC and cancer patients’ adverse healthcare utilization, costs, patient satisfaction, and quality of care. This book is unique in terms of the measures’ comprehensiveness and provides ample evidence that the implementation of PCC is associated with better healthcare performance. The intended readers include researchers in related fields, graduate students, and healthcare providers. It is hoped the book offers further evidence for meaningful practice and have many policy and research implications in PCC.

Abstract: Introduction -- Major Policy Reforms in Drinking Water Sector in India -- Profile of the Study Region, Cities as well as the Respondents -- Water Availability and Water Service Delivery in Urban India -- Water Scarcity and Unequal Access to Water -- Institutional Dimensions of Drinking Water Governance in Urban India -- Conclusion.
Abstract: This book investigates institutional dimensions of urban water supply in India, with a specific focus on institutional capabilities to provide drinking water to urban households in an efficient, equitable and sustainable manner. This book has been developed through empirical research within the context of growing urbanisation and increasing water needs of Indian cities, and the wider developmental goal of achieving universal and equitable access to safe and affordable water for all – as envisaged in goal 6 of the SDGs. This study revolves around three important aspects of urban water supply and governance. Firstly, it attempts to understand household water service delivery scenarios in urban India, drawing from case studies based on our household survey in four cities – Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kochi and Hyderabad. Secondly, it examines the question of existing socio-economic inequality and access to water in an urban context in India. While dealing with the issue of inequality and access to water, it attempts to explore the question of whether access to water and water scarcity is socially neutral; whilst also analysing the mechanisms employed by the urban poor to manage their daily water needs. Thirdly, this book explores the role of institutions for efficient and effective delivery of water in urban India. The institutional analysis from a comparative perspective provides important insights to guide current reforms in domestic water supply in India, especially in a neo-liberal context. The book is a valuable resource for academicians, policy makers and practitioners involved in water governance in general and domestic (drinking) water supply in particular. Besides, it is of great interest to those working in the area of urban development, urban planning and household water management. The book is an outcome of a collaborative research project by the authors sponsored jointly by University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi and UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI).

Abstract: The book focuses on the real-world case-based crisis management in digital product development. This includes forecasting, responding, and agile engineering/management methods, patterns, and practices for sustainable development. This book introduces a set of case studies for sustainability in management as a blend, the components of which have been carefully selected from a few domains adjacent to digital production such as IT-intensive operation, human resource management, and knowledge engineering, to name a few. The key ingredients of this crisis management framework include information management, tradeoff optimization, agile product development, and knowledge transfer. The case studies this book features will help the stakeholders in understanding and identifying the key technology, business, and human factors that may likely result in a digital production crisis, i.e., critically affect the organization outcomes in terms of successful digitalization and sustainable development. These factors are particularly important for the large-scale applications, typically considered very complex in managerial and technological aspects, and, therefore, specifically addressed by the discipline of IT crisisology.

Abstract: Research on historical earthquakes and tsunamis in the Iberian Peninsula has made great strides in recent years, from diverse scientific fields ranging from geology to archaeology. In addition to the famous earthquake and tsunami of 1755, which intensely affected the peninsula, researchers are conducting a growing number of surveys and case studies on seismic episodes and extreme wave events of possible tsunamigenic origin in Portugal and Spain during the ancient, medieval, and modern eras. However, the development of these studies has suffered due to a certain lack of communication among the different fields of research, which are focused on their own methodologies and interests. The aim of this book is to promote interdisciplinary dialogue by linking the results of the most recent research into historical earthquakes and tsunamis in Iberia from the fields of geology, history and archaeology. The volume, which devotes special attention to tsunamis and to events that occurred in the Iberian Peninsula before 1755, offers synthetic insights, updates, and case studies of maximum interest for knowledge of the historical seismology of Portugal and Spain. .

Abstract: Introduction to Vibration & Noise Control Problems -- Active Control for Performance Limit -- Active Control with Constraints & Uncertainty -- Active Control with Extensions -- Energy Harvesting for Performance Limit -- Active Vibration Distribution -- Conclusions & Perspectives.
Abstract: The book is motivated by the pivotal issue: what is the performance limit of active control and energy harvesting? It aims to develop systematic design methodologies with a “visualization technique” where the performance limit can be readily determined solely based on visual inspections. Modern technological systems have evolved toward high speed, heavy load, lightweight, flexible operation and extreme conditions, as demonstrated in aerospace, marine, transportation and manufacturing industries. The associated vibration and noise issues have become such problematic that they may significantly confine the performance of the systems, to say the discomfort at least. Through the geometric representation of the performance specifications, fundamental issues such as (1) the existence of feasible controllers; (2) the optimality of controllers; (3) the performance limit of controllers; (4) compromisability among the performance specifications; (5) the synthesis of controllers; and (6) the influence of constraints on optimal solutions can all be resolved within the proposed framework. The state of the art is thus refined with a new approach complementary to those optimization-based routines, where extra effort would have to be exercised to disclose the compromisability of performance specifications. The proposed book will result in a new design methodology—performance limit-oriented active control. It was initiated by the author with the project “Active Control for Performance Limit” (ACPL). A series of fundamental results are obtained and will be disseminated in this book. The results are verified through extensive numerical demonstrations and are expected to provide useful guidance for practical engineering in the vibration and noise industry and research.

Abstract: Introduction -- Literature Review -- Method -- Findings -- Result.
Abstract: This book explores how identity plays a pivotal role in tourism consumption. Almost all tourism-related consumption studies underestimate or refer inadequately to identity's relationship with tourism consumption. As identity phenomenon is considerably a new subject in the tourism literature, this book examines its relationship with the consumption theory. It is of interest to readers curious about how pre-, during, and post-consumption activities affect a person's identity and vice versa. This book contains an analysis of consumption theories and a summary of literature identifying the phenomenon's evolution through pre-modern, modern, and post-modern periods. In this context, this book aims to enlighten the interactions between identity construction and tourism consumption. The grounded theory, one of the qualitative research approaches, was applied to accomplish the relevant purpose, and in-depth interviews were recruited following the method approach stages to enable the researchers to gain new insights into the subject. By presenting the identity tended tourism consumption model, this book provides a set of profound contributions to the relevant literature and insight for practitioners/decision-makers and entrepreneurs. This book attempts to clarify the tourists' consumption process and understand how the interactions between identity construction and tourism consumption work. The qualitative methodology (grounded theory) allows in-depth analysis and insights of the participants of the study on their definitions of themselves as human beings and as tourists, decisions on their travel plans, their considerations, motivations to travel and destination preferences, interactions with others, vacation activities, evaluations on their travel experiences, et cetera. Therefore, this book appeals to readers of marketing, business operations, sociology, and economics.

Abstract: This book considers that contextual factors are important for the achievement of social justice and it recognizes that vulnerability to which children are exposed is a phenomenon throughout the planet, particularly in the South. It presents a theoretical review of social justice as well as different situations of vulnerability children experience in their daily lives in which they can be injured, affecting their well-being and the exercise of their rights. It examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children, considered as a vulnerable group warranting special social policy considerations. It also presents the need to change power structures in knowledge production and decision-making processes to achieve social justice for children; the importance of investing in children; the exclusion of children from participation in certain activities and the shame of not being able to participate in equal conditions with others; the lives of migrant children belonging to ethnic minorities exposed to language barriers and access to technological devices; and the analysis of the process of social re-integration of children from conditions of armed conflict. The book concludes that governments need to assume social justice as part of universal human interests, providing security, conditions for well-being, and guaranteeing social justice for all children.

Abstract: “Through the lenses of equity, inclusion and sustainability, Pineo’s 'healthy urbanism,’ productively builds on existing theory and practice to consider and describe the processes, principles and goals that can support health through urban planning and development.” —Professor Julian Agyeman, Tufts University, USA “This treasure-trove book sightsees health and well-being on a journey. Beyond traditional boundaries of urbanism, it voyages by streets, cities, and planetary ecosystems, enhancing synergies between urban disciplines, evolving new approaches to preserve well-being, amplifying opportunities for a healthy and equitable life on a sustainable planet.” —Professor Waleska Teixeira Caiaffa, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil “This book is an indispensable read for all those concerned about how urban development can support a growing world population, providing equitable opportunities for healthy living within planetary boundaries.” —Professor Sir Andrew Haines, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UK “Pineo’s examination of healthy urbanism offers a deep dive and a systems thinking framework to understanding the social and physical determinants of health. The site-specific examples and case studies bring the research to life and make this text very readable for people in and outside of public health and urban design disciplines.” —Sharon Z. Roerty, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, USA The globally distributed health impacts of environmental degradation and widening inequalities require a fundamental shift in understandings of healthy urbanism. This book redefines the meaning and form of healthy urban environments, urging planners and design professionals to consider how their work impacts population health and wellbeing at multiple spatial and temporal scales. The concepts of equity, inclusion and sustainability are central to this framing, reversing the traditional focus on individuals, their genes and ‘lifestyle choices’ to one of structural factors that affect health. Integrating theory and concepts from social epidemiology, sustainable development and systems thinking with practical case studies, this book will be of value for students and practitioners. Helen Pineo is Associate Professor in Healthy and Sustainable Cities in the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment at University College London, UK.

Abstract: Blockchain is an emerging technology platform for developing decentralized applications and data storage, over and beyond its role as the technology underlying the cryptocurrencies. The basic tenet of this platform is that it allows one to create a distributed and replicated ledger of events, transactions, and data generated through various IT processes with strong cryptographic guarantees of tamper resistance, immutability, and verifiability. Public blockchain platforms allow us to guarantee these properties with overwhelming probabilities even when untrusted users are participants of distributed applications with the ability to transact on the platform. Even though, blockchain technology has become popularly known because of its use in the implementation of cryptocurrencies such as BitCoin, Ethereum, etc.; the technology itself holds much more promise in various areas such as time stamping, logging of critical events in a system, recording of transactions, trustworthy e-governance, etc. It introduces theoretical and practical aspects of blockchain technology. The book includes an in-depth insight into the need for decentralization, smart contracts, consensus both permissioned and permissionless, and various blockchain development frameworks, tools, and platforms. It can be used as a learning resource for various examinations and certifications related to cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. This book explained the nuts and bolts of blockchain technology in lucid language to make students more familiar with the implementation perspective of this much-needed technology.

Abstract: ‘There is no overstating the outsized influence of the Chinese and the Russians on regionalism in Central Asia. Peter Krasnopolsky has written an outstanding work on the patterns of cooperation and competition that define the region’s evolving infrastructure and connectivity, and the respective contributions by China and Russia to that end. Krasnopolsky’s book is an absolute must read for anyone seeking to understand contemporary Central Asia.’ —See Seng Tan, Research Advisor, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Singapore ‘With all eyes on the significance of Sino-Russian relations for global politics, Peter Krasnopolsky highlights the challenges their partnership has posed for Central Asia’s regional economic development. His extensive field work provides a granular exploration of the different impacts Russia and China have had on the trajectory of Central Asian regionalism, especially in building institutions, infrastructure, and connectivity.’ —Elizabeth Wishnick, Senior Research Scientist CNA, and Professor of Political Science, Montclair State University, US The book evaluates Central Asian regionalism by analyzing the impact of Russia and China on physical infrastructure. The study covers the 30-year period after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, with a focus on the decade preceding the pandemic. Multiple case studies of projects in the networked sectors of infrastructure demonstrate the impact of major powers’ engagement on regional connectivity. The book is of interest to the scholars of international relations in Eurasia, Sino-Russian relations, China’s foreign policy, Russia’s policy in the former Soviet space, international institutions in Asia, and regionalism. The empirical depth contributes to Central Asia area studies. The in-depth cases on multilateral financial institutions and regional networks, particularly energy, transportation and telecommunication, would be of great value to those interested in these sectors. Peter Krasnopolsky lived and taught in China for ten years. He conducted research in, Beijing, Bishkek, and Almaty and traveled extensively through China and Central Asia. Peter received Bachelor’s from Rutgers, Master’s from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, and Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham. He is based in Bayonne, New Jersey.

Abstract: This book examines the current status of mHealth development, regulations and the social background in Japan, South Korea and China, comparing it to the situation in the United States and the European Union and consider solutions to issues surrounding mHealth. The recent progress in mobile technology, represented by smartphones and smart watches, has been remarkable. A service called mobile health (mHealth), which uses such mobile technology to manage health, is also becoming a reality. Although the accuracy of medical devices is not as accurate as those used in medicine, the biometric information such as heart rate and SpO2 can already be monitored over a long period of time. Although the technology is maturing to the point where it can be implemented in society, it remains an unapproved service of medical care in most countries. The development and social implementation of mHealth is most active in the US, but social implementation is gradually progressing in other countries as well. In this book, we will first discuss what kind of global and harmonized regulations are desirable by comparing the regulatory reforms necessary for social implementation of mHealth. In addition, mHealth raises privacy concerns in the US because the usual behavior and biometric information of subjects is utilized by private companies. In addition, it is important to note that the behavior and biometric information of subjects collected by smart devices is automatically analyzed by AI technology, mainly machine learning, which makes the analysis a black box.

Abstract: Introduction -- An Overview of Illegal Immigrants in the Border Ethnic Areas of Yunnan -- Causes of Illegal Immigrants in border ethnic areas of Yunnan -- Impacts of Illegal Immigrants in border ethnic areas of Yunnan -- Practice of illegal immigration governance in border ethnic areas of Yunnan -- Countermeasures against illegal immigrants in border ethnic areas of Yunnan -- Conclusion: Building China's illegal immigration governance mechanism.
Abstract: This book analyzes the governance of illegal immigrants in ethnic areas along China’s southwest border. Since China is not an immigrant country and lacks an immigrant culture, the goals of law enforcement departments are limited to sanfeirenyuan (three types of illegal persons: illegal immigrants, illegal residents, and illegal employees). The transformation of sanfeirenyuan, an issue that has plagued China for many years, into an “illegal immigration” governance issue that is of general concern to the international community, has led to fundamental changes in research methods and research topics. The research presented here makes the issue China now faces part of global issues; by using the “worldview on China’s issues” to assess current problems, it can also show how “China’s solutions can be applied to global issues.” The unique feature of this book is that it approaches the issue of illegal immigration as an unconscious crisis. Accordingly, it holds substantial value in terms of exploring the theoretical basis of and governance methods for maintaining national security in the context of globalization, as well as the early warning mechanisms and crisis management in the context of China’s national security. Since China has a long southwest border, the stability and security of border ethnic areas have long played a decisive role in the stability and security of the country as a whole: if the frontiers are stable, the country enjoys enhanced security. Consequently, investigating the governance mechanism for illegal immigrants in the ethnic areas of the southwest border is of considerable practical relevance. This book offers a valuable asset for researchers in related fields and can be used as a reference book for students of national security. It also benefits practitioners in relevant management departments.

Introduction -- Chapter 2: The Measurable Effects of Disinformation on Elections -- Chapter 3: Disinformation as a Collective Action Problem -- Chapter 4: Experiments in Election Advertising Laws in Authentic Democracies Elsewhere -- Chapter 5: Australia’s Experience -- Chapter 6: South Australia - A Model Legal Regime for Regulating Electoral Advertising -- Chapter 7: Issues in Administration of s 113 -- Chapter 8: 10 Main Recommendations.
Abstract: This book represents the first comprehensive, Australia-focused treatment of the problem of false election information disseminated for the purpose of gaining an electoral advantage. It explores cautious legal regulation as the most effective and decisive approach to the issue. In doing so, the book demonstrates that, although experiments with such remedies have met with mixed success elsewhere, they are nevertheless viable, especially in Australia where they have strong public support and are able to withstand constitutional challenge. This is an open access book. Lisa Hill is a Professor of Politics at the University of Adelaide. Her research interests are in electoral studies, political theory and history of ideas. Max Douglass is a teaching and research assistant at the University of Adelaide, and a Juris Doctor candidate at the University of Melbourne Law School. Ravi Baltutis is a research assistant at the University of Adelaide, a former Student Editor of the Adelaide Law Review and currently employed at Dentons, a global law firm.
