    Abstract: The edited volume Archives and the Cultural Heritage focuses on archives as institutions and to their tense relationship with archives as material. These dynamics are discussed in respect of the past, the present, and the future. The focus lies in the mechanisms the Finnish archive institutions have utilised when taking part in forming the cultural heritage and in debating the importance of the private archives in society. Within social sciences and history from the early 1990s onwards, the effects of globalisation have been seen as a new focal point for research. Momentarily, the archives saw the same paradigm shift as the focus of the archival studies proceeded from state to society. This brought forth the notion that the values of society are reflected in the acquisition of archival material. This archival turn draws attention to the archives as entities formed by cultural practices. The volume discusses cultural heritage within Finnish archives with diverse perspectives and from various time periods. The key concepts are cultural heritage and archives – both as institution and as material. Articles review the formation of archival collections spanning from the 19th to the 21st century and highlight that the archives have never been neutral or objective actors; rather, they have always been an active process of remembering and forgetting, a matter of inclusion and exclusion. The focus is on private archives and on the choices that guided the creation of the archives and the cultural perceptions and power structures associated with them. Although private archives have considerable social and research value, and although their material complements the picture of society provided by documentary data produced by public administrations, they have only risen to the theoretical discussions in the 21st century. The authors consider what has happened before the material ends up in the archive, what happens in the archive and what can be deduced from this. It shows how archival solutions manifest themselves, how they have influenced research and how they still affect it. One of the key questions is whose past has been preserved and whose is deemed worthy of preservation. Under what conditions have the permanently preserved documents been selected and how can they be accessed? In addition, the volume pays attention to whose documents have been ignored or forgotten, as well as to the networks and power of the individuals within the archival institution and to the politics of memory. The Archives and the Cultural Heritage is an opening to a discussion on the mechanisms, practices and goals of Finnish archival activities. It challenges archival organisations to reflect on their own operating models and to make visible their own conscious or unconscious choices. It raises awareness of the formation of the Finnish documentary cultural heritage, produces new information about private archives and participates in the scientific debate on the changing significance of archives in society. The volume is related to the Academy of Finland research project “Making and Interpreting National Pasts – Role of Finnish Archives as Networks of Power and Sites of Memory” (no 25257, 2011–2014/2019), University of Turku.     Abstract: Societal impact is an integral part of academic research today and researchers are expected to share their findings with research participants. Efforts to develop scientific research and science communication from one-way communication towards different forms of co-creation where the researcher and research participants produce knowledge and negotiate about its meaning and applicability through joint actions are in great demand. For the researcher, such developments have brought a new kind of access into the world of research participants and also novel reflections on one’s professional knowledge and identity and their boundaries. This book focuses on the human and social sciences and draws particular attention to the diverse encounters that occur between researchers and research participants at all stages of the research process when studying human subjects and activities. The book presents case studies of applied conversation analysis in a variety of professional contexts. The aim of the book is to shed light on the practices, possibilities, and challenges of applied research within the conversation analytic framework where the research participants’ authentic social situations become the target of the researcher’s detailed analysis. The articles of the book investigate social interaction in occupational health care, mental health rehabilitation, elderly care, welfare education, theatre rehearsals, social circus, military organization, software development, and workplace community break taking. These articles represent applied conversation analysis in different ways. The results of the research have been used in some of the articles, for example, in developing the professional practices of the workplace community whereas in some other articles the whole study has been undertaken collaboratively between researchers and professionals. Each article is divided into two parts: a conventional research report that analyses the patterns of social interaction in a particular professional setting is followed by a story where the authors reflect on how their study originated, how it progressed, and what kinds of encounters and choices it involved. The stories highlighting reciprocal interactions of the researcher and the research participants across the research process bring forth various voices and perspectives that conventionally are not considered as part of the research report. The book brings important information not only on the interactional phenomena examined in the articles but also on the diverse issues of conducting and applying research in professional contexts. It also discusses the practices and definitions of applied conversation analysis within the broader framework of applied research, universities’ third mission, and forms of knowledge and expertise in contemporary society

    Abstract: What is a state? This volume approaches the question from an anthropological perspective, which means that the starting point of the analysis is not the concept of the state, but instead, what kinds of structures the state consists of, what kinds of effects these structures have, and how states are experienced by the people who inhabit, make, enact, and resist them. The volume introduces a contemporary anthropological approach to the study of the state for a Finnish-speaking audience.     Abstract: For the first time worldwide, this collection brings together analyses of the last two centuries of historical change around the shores and drainage basin of Lake Ladoga, Europe’s largest lake. The main focus of the narrative is the Northern Ladoga region, which was a Finnish administrative area between 1812 and 1944. After the Second World War, the entire shoreline of Lake Ladoga was incorporated into the northeast part of Russia’s border region, the Autonomous Republic of Karelia and the Leningrad Province. The main theme uniting this collection is how the relationship between humans and nature is shaped by industrialization and modernization in society. Other key issues include protecting nature and perspectives on particular places and times, which are reflected in the methodological and thematic choices made in this volume. The research framework set by the editor, Professor Maria Lähteenmäki, is the new lakefront history (Finn. uusi rantahistoria), focusing on approaches to environmental, economic and sensory history of lakes. To draw broad conclusions, on the one hand, the multilevel changes on the lakefront cannot be understood without knowledge of the history of the wider drainage basin, and awareness of the geopolitics of the region and the climate changes. On the other hand, the human relationship to natural waters has changed significantly in 200 years. Thinking in terms of economic benefit has gradually given way to principles of sustainable development.     Abstract: This book explores the media coverage of three prominent Finnish labor market cases in the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat. It analyzes how this arena supported or undermined the power positions of each side and the reaching of the contract. The cases in study are the first proper general agreement in 1968 (Liinamaa 1) and the endeavors for so-called “social contract” by the Government of Esko Aho (1991) and Juha Sipilä (2015). The study identifies changes and continuities in the political discourses, in the ways of making validity claims in political argumentation, and in media/journalistic interventionism. These content analytical viewpoints illustrate the theoretical ideas about mediatization of politics presented in the book. By analyzing corporatist and pluralist aspects of decision making, the book opens a view in the relationships among labor market organizations, the Government, and the media in the three decades studied
    Abstract: Teoksessa kuvataan, millainen julkisen politikoinnin areena Helsingin Sanomissa rakentui kolmessa merkittävässä työmarkkinatapauksessa ja miten tämä areena tuki tai horjutti sopimusten syntyä ja osapuolten asemaa. Tarkasteltavina ovat vuonna 1968 solmittu Suomen ensimmäinen varsinainen tulopoliittinen sopimus (Liinamaa 1) sekä Esko Ahon ja Juha Sipilän hallitusten yritykset niin sanotuiksi ”yhteiskuntasopimuksiksi” vuosina 1991 ja 2015. Tutkimuksen kohteena olevista jutuista tunnistetaan muutoksia ja pysyvyyksiä, jotka liittyvät niin tulopolitiikan puhetapoihin, julkisen argumentoinnin tapoihin kuin median/journalismin toimintaan.     Abstract: "The stability and quality of work careers are major social and economic issues, as the funding of the Nordic welfare state is based on the employment of working-age people and the tax revenue collected from work, production and consumption. This edited volume examines how work careers have developed in specific industrial sectors and at different levels of education in recent decades. The research results are based on the linked employer-employee data of Statistics Finland, company statistics and interviews with industry experts. Careers are examined from several different perspectives, including career stability, employment status, income development, mobility between industries and places of work, and on-the-job training. Based on the results, careers have not weakened between cohorts on average in Finland. Instead of the often-expressed perception of greater job instability, there is high stability of employment combined with high mobility within the careers, owing to the high frequency of changing industries and jobs. However, the career development of women and the low-skilled lags behind that of men and the more highly educated, meaning that equality in earnings has not progressed. Other key findings of the study suggest that adult education differs according to the level of education, and that companies' investments in intangible capital anticipate positive career outcomes for employees."

    Abstract: "Tämä tutkimukseen perustuva kokoomateos tarjoaa selkeän, monipuolisen ja käytännönläheisen yleiskatsauksen siitä, mihin suuntaan suomalainen sosiaali- ja terveysala on kehittymässä 2020-luvulla. Sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon uudistus on jälleen hyvin ajankohtainen, kun keväällä 2019 kariutuneen uudistuksen perustalle ollaan rakentamassa uudenlaisia hyvinvointialueita tai sote-maakuntia ja monialaisia sosiaali- ja terveyskeskuksia. Kirjassa avataan monipuolisesti maamme sosiaali- ja terveyspalvelujen uudistumista kolmesta eri näkökulmasta. Teoksen ensimmäisessä osassa tarkastellaan sosiaali- ja terveysalaa makrotason eli palvelujärjestelmän uudistumisen näkökulmasta. Artikkelien aiheina ovat historiallinen katsaus aiempiin uudistuksiin, integraatio sekä vaikuttavuuden ja kustannusvaikuttavuuden tutkimus. Toinen osa kohdistuu organisaatiotason kysymyksiin, kuten johtamisen ja osaamisen uudistumiseen sekä sosiaali- ja terveysalan digitalisaation haasteisiin. Kirjan kolmas osa keskittyy sosiaali- ja terveysalan muutoksiin niitä toteuttavien ihmisten näkökulmasta. Artikkeleiden teemoina ovat sote-työntekijöiden monitoimijainen yhteistyö, asiakaslähtöinen palveluohjaus sekä asiakasosallisuus. Kirja pohjautuu Itä-Suomen yliopistossa tehtyihin tutkimuksiin sekä kotimaiseen ja kansainväliseen tutkimuskirjallisuuteen. Kirjoittajat edustavat monia eri tieteenaloja: sosiaali- ja terveysjohtamista, sosiaalityötä, sosiaalipsykologiaa ja muita yhteiskuntatieteitä sekä oikeustieteitä. Kirja on suunnattu sosiaali- ja terveysalan johtajille ja ammattilaisille, asiantuntijoille, päätöksentekijöille, tutkijoille ja opettajille. Se soveltuu myös oppikirjaksi yliopistojen ja ammattikorkeakoulujen johtamisopintoihin."

    Abstract: The ten articles in this edited volume examine the city of Varkaus as a small city struggling with structural change using historical documents as well as survey and interview data. The city of Varkaus, which has a long industrial history, has lost a large part of its industrial jobs in the first decades of this millennium and its population has fallen sharply in recent years. However, a survey of the adult population shows that the inhabitants of Varkaus are typically satisfied with their work, with their social relationships and their lives in general. Varkaus is seen as a safe and good living environment. A central element of well-being is couple relationship, as well as other social relationships. The lack of well-being often stems from unemployment, low income and feelings of not belonging to the place of residence. Young adults value their place of residence as well as their family relationships, but there are tensions in their life regarding work and income. The tranquility and proximity to nature of Varkaus are appreciated, but there are also many who long for more urban heartbeat in their hometown
    Abstract: Tässä kymmenestä artikkelista koostuvassa kokoomateoksessa tarkastellaan Varkautta rakennemuutoksen kanssa kamppailevana pienenä kaupunkina historiallisia dokumentteja sekä vuosina 2016–2017 kerättyjä kysely- ja haastatteluaineistoa hyödyntäen. Pitkän teollisuushistorian omaava Varkauden kaupunki on tämän vuosituhannen ensimmäisinä vuosikymmeninä menettänyt suuren osan teollisista työpaikoistaan ja sen väestö on supistunut voimakkaasti. Kuitenkin koko aikuisväestöä edustava kysely kertoo, että varkautelaiset ovat tyypillisesti tyytyväisiä työhönsä, sosiaalisiin suhteisiinsa ja elämäänsä muutenkin. Varkaus nähdään turvallisena ja hyvän elämän puitteet tarjoavana asuinpaikkana. Hyvinvoinnin tärkeitä osatekijöitä ovat parisuhde ja muut sosiaaliset suhteet. Hyvinvoinnin puutteet liittyvät työttömyyteen, pienituloisuuteen sekä ulkopuolisuuden tunteisiin suhteessa asuinpaikkaan. Nuoret aikuiset arvostavat omaa asuinpaikkakuntaansa sekä perhe- ja sukulaisuussuhteitaan, mutta arkielämään liittyy jännitteitä työn ja toimeentulon osalta. Varkauden rauhallisuutta ja luonnonläheisyyttä arvostetaan, mutta monet toivoivat siltä myös enemmän kaupunkimaista sykettä

    Abstract: "Drawing on the debate on mediatization of politics this study identifies cultural meanings, institutional practices and styles of argumentation as three theoretical dimensions that illuminate both the construction of journalistic publicity and its potential uses in political action. Based on the theoretical model, environmental politics is identified as a specific context for mediatization. In environmental politics, the interplay of cultural meanings, institutional practices and styles of argumentation define the construction and use of journalistic publicity in a way that differs from other fields of politics. The empirical part of this study analyzes the newspaper coverage of three Finnish environmental conflicts from 1971, 1994 and 2012. The theoretical model is transformed into an analytical framework that focuses on discursive construction of the conflicts (cultural meanings), journalistic frames, narration and opinion-giving in the coverage of the conflicts and the publicity practices adopted by actors during the conflicts (institutional practices) and legitimation of arguments (styles of argumentation). According to this study, the relation between media and politics in the field of environmental politics is defined by the increasing cultural significance of environmental protection from the 1970s to the present. In the newspaper coverage of the three environmental conflicts studied, changes on the frames, narration and opinion-giving of journalism resonated with this cultural change. However, the significance of environmental protection in the framing, narration and opinion-giving of journalism was greater in the national newspaper studied compared to the local newspapers selected based on their proximity to the conflict sites. Styles of argumentation appeared to be more case dependent. The increasing cultural significance of environmental protection did not have a clear effect on how arguments were legitimated. "

    Abstract: " Voting advice applications (VAA) have supported Finnish voters for over 20 years in their voting decisions in general elections. Most Finnish VAAs are planned and provided by the media, and they are based on matching opinions of individual candidates with an individual VAA users before elections. Nowadays, in Finland, VAAs are important for almost all age groups. Among the youngest voters VAAs are viewed as the most important source of information to support voting decisions. The book provides up-to-date and comprehensive picture over the role and significance of VAAs in the Finnish political system and in the political communication arena. Research topics deal also with VAA journalism and how candidates perceive VAAs. Research data and data materials in use are wide-ranging. They range from survey data sets to questions of VAAs and from interviews of candidates and VAA producers to media content about VAAs. Theoretical research questions are mostly related to the democratic value of VAAs. This perspective is central also in the end of the book, which opens possible future pathways for the VAAs."

Niiden merkitys vaalitiedon lähteenä on kohonnut maassamme merkittäväksi lähes kaikissa äänioikeutettujen ikäryhmissä. Nuorimmille äänestäjille vaalikoneet ovat jo merkittävin äänestyspäätösten tietolähde. Teos tarjoaa ajantasaisen ja kattavan kuvan vaalikoneiden nykyisestä asemasta suomalaisessa poliittisessa järjestelmässä ja viestintäkentässä. Uusia tutkimuksellisia näkökulmia ovat vaalikonejournalismi sekä ehdokkaiden näkemykset vaalikoneista. Tutkimusaineisto koostuu valitsijakyselyistä, vaalikoneiden analyysista, vaalikoneita koskevista uutisista sekä ehdokkaiden, kampanjavastaavien ja vaalikoneiden tekijöiden haastatteluista.     Abstract: "This book provides the reader with understanding of the phenomenon of silent resistance, collecting and presenting research on it. Regulating, governing or controlling human activity often generates open resistance, which has been studied from the points of view of democracy, civil disobedience or political activism, for example. However, power relations and conflicts can also involve another kind of resistance, which may not necessarily even be recognised as resistance at first. It can be called silent, passive, invisible or everyday resistance. Silent resistance is a way of the subjugated or otherwise marginalised to challenge the dominant rules or systems. Because it does not proclaim resistance but rather tries to stay out of publicity, it is risk-free and low-profile activity that is seemingly non-political – and you can get away with it. Silent resistance can take many different forms: it may appear, for example, as silence and grumbling, isolation, avoiding and hindering issues or shifting attention to something irrelevant. The importance of everyday resistance rises from the signals of small networks in a situation where open confrontation is not possible or desired, but total inactivity is not an option either. Moreover, silent resistance remaining in the margin cannot be considered separate from open resistance, but as an important part in the process of realising more open resistance. Although power relations serve as the event framework of the phenomenon, silent resistance is a weapon not only in the hands of the subjugated. Its tactics can also be used by those who hold power. With the articles in the book, the reader can follow the most diverse situations of silent resistance through both historical and contemporary events. The cases outline different forms of silent resistance, as well as its mechanisms and motives. The articles in the collection reveal aspects of sociology, cultural anthropology, cultural research, youth research and historical research. This emphasises the wide spectrum of silent resistance, its loudness and multidisciplinary character. "
    Abstract: "Kirja tekee näkyväksi vähän käsiteltyä hiljaisen vastarinnan ilmiötä sekä kokoaa yhteen ja esittelee sitä koskevaa tutkimusta. Kun ihmisen toimintaa säädellään, hallitaan tai kontrolloidaan, ilmenee usein myös avointa vastarintaa, jota on tutkittu esimerkiksi demokratian toteutumisen, kansalaistottelemattomuuden tai poliittisen aktivismin näkökulmista. Valta-asetelmiin ja konflikteihin voi kuitenkin liittyä myös toisenlaista vastarintaa, jota ei välttämättä ensin edes huomata vastarinnaksi. Sitä voidaan kutsua hiljaiseksi, passiiviseksi, näkymättömäksi tai arkipäivän vastarinnaksi. Hiljainen vastarinta on alistettujen tai muuten marginaalisiksi jääneiden tapa asettua poikkiteloin hallitsevien sääntöjen tai järjestelmien kanssa. Koska se ei julistaudu vastarinnaksi, vaan pikemminkin pyrkii pysymään poissa julkisuudesta, se on riskitöntä matalan profiilin toimintaa, joka on näennäisesti epäpoliittista ja josta ei jää kiinni. Hiljainen vastarinta voi saada monia erilaisia muotoja: se saattaa näyttäytyä esimerkiksi vaikenemisena ja jurnuttamisena, ulkopuolelle jättäytymisenä, asioiden välttämisenä, niiden vaikeuttamisena tai huomion siirtämisenä epäolennaiseen. Arkipäivän vastarinnan merkitys nousee pienten verkostojen signaaleista tilanteessa, jossa ei kyetä tai haluta lähteä julkiseen vastakkainasetteluun, mutta ei myöskään haluta pysyä täysin passiivisina. Marginaaliin jäävää hiljaista vastarintaa ei myöskään voida nähdä erillisenä avoimesta vastarinnasta, vaan se on tärkeä osa avoimemman vastarinnan aktualisoitumisen prosessia. Vaikka valtasuhteet toimivat ilmiön tapahtumakehyksinä, hiljainen vastarinta ei ole ainoastaan alistettujen toimintaa. Sen taktiikoita voivat käyttää myös valtaapitävät. Kirjan artikkeleiden mukana pääsemme seuraamaan mitä moninaisimpia hiljaisen vastarinnan tapahtumatilanteita sekä historiallisten että nykypäivän tapahtumien avulla. Erilaiset tapaukset avaavat ja jäsentävät hiljaisen vastarinnan esiintymismuotoja, samoin kuin sen mekanismeja ja motiiveja. Kokoelman artikkeleissa tulevat esiin sosiologian, kulttuuriantropologian, kulttuurintutkimuksen, nuorisotutkimuksen ja historiantutkimuksen näkökulmat.     Abstract: Toto vydání Směrnice o převodních cenách z roku 2017 zahrnuje podstatné revize provedené v roce 2016, aby odráželo vysvětlení a revize dohodnuté ve Zprávách o Akcích 8-10 BEPS z roku 2015 “Přizpůsobení převodních cen ekonomické aktivitě“ a Akci 13 „Dokumentace k převodním cenám a CbCR“. Směrnice zahrnuje také revidované pokyny o režimech bezpečných přístavišť (safe harbours) schválené v roce 2013, které uznávají, že správně navržená safe harbours mohou pomoci zmírnit určité komplikace v souvislosti s dodržováním předpisů a poskytnout daňovým poplatníkům větší jistotu. Toto vydání také obsahuje změny v konzistenci, které byly provedeny ve zbytku Směrnice OECD o převodních cenách. Směrnice OECD o převodních cenách byla ve svém původním znění schválena Radou OECD v roce 1995.

    Abstract: This collection of critical essays concentrates on the renowned Finnish collage novel Aperitiff ‒ avoin kaupunki (Aperitiff, Open City) by Kari Aronpuro in its three editions (1965, 1978, 2015). The essays provide a theoretically wide-ranging and up-to-date introduction to Aperitiff but also to collage and the collage novel more generally. Aperitiff is approached from the viewpoints of source materials; information, media technologies, and conceptualism; facsimiles as images of writing; methodological and thematic humour and comedy; Situationist reading strategies; realist and neorealist cinema; and Aperitiff‘s relation to the contemporary Finnish experimental novel, especially to Neuromaani by Jaakko Yli-Juonikas. The collection also reprints Aronpuro’s early essay on the reception of Aperitiff, and extracts from the typescript of the novel’s second edition
    Abstract: Tämä artikkelikokoelma on laajin Kari Aronpuron Aperitiff – avoin kaupunki -romaanin kolmea versiota (1965, 1978, 2015) käsittelevä teos. Kokoelma tarjoaa teoreettisesti monipuolisen ja otteeltaan tuoreen johdatuksen paitsi Aperitiffiin myös yleisemmin kollaasiromaanin edelleen ajankohtaiseen lajiin ja kollaasin käsitteeseen. Antologian kirjoittajien valitsemat näkökulmat kertovat Aperitiffin moniaineksisuudesta, moniulotteisuudesta ja monitulkintaisuudesta. Artikkeleissa inventoidaan ja kartoitetaan Aperitiffin laajoja aineistoja sekä konkreettisten lainausten että laajemman intertekstuaalisuuden näkökulmista. Aperitiffia käsitellään myös informaation ja mediateknologioiden kautta. Samalla romaani kytketään suuntaukseen, joka on ollut keskeinen Kari Aronpurolle 2000-luvulla: kirjalliseen konseptualismiin, käsitteelliseen tai ”epäluovaan” kirjoittamiseen. Artikkeleissa keskitytään lisäksi tekstikollaasille oleelliseen menetelmään, tekotapaan tai tyyppiin: faksimileen. Samalla puretaan sanan ja kuvan käsiteparia analysoimalla kirjoituksen itsensä kuvallisuutta, tyypittelemällä tekstikollaaseja faksimilen näkökulmasta sekä ottamalla huomioon kirjan sivun teknologiaa. Aiheena on myös Aperitiffin huumori ja komiikka metodisten ja temaattisten tekijöiden yhteisvaikutuksena. Kollaasit, tekstilainaukset ja -luettelot sekä teoksen ontologialla leikittely ovat romaanin omalaatuisen huumorin rakennusaineita. Aperitiffia luetaan niin ikään urbaanin suunnistamisen ja harhailun näkökulmasta, erityisesti hyödyntämällä Kansainvälisiltä Situationisteilta peräisin olevia käsitteitä. Aperitiffia lähestytään myös kuvallisuuden, erityisesti elokuvallisuuden kautta ja tarkastellaan sen yhteyksiä realismin ja neorealismin traditioihin sekä ”todellisuuden” esittämiseen liittyviin diskursseihin. Aperitiffin pitkittäisvaikutuksia suomalaisessa kirjallisuudessa tutkitaan Jaakko Yli-Juonikkaan Neuromaani-romaanin (2012) kautta, teosten julkaisuajankohtia ja rakennusperiaatteita vertaillen. Tämän luennan valossa moniaineksisten avantgarde-romaanien poetiikka näyttäytyy edelleen erittäin elin- ja ilmaisuvoimaisena. Antologian liitteenä on myös arkistoharvinaisuuksia: pienoisessee, jossa Aronpuro ruotii tuoreeltaan (marraskuussa 1965) romaaninsa vastaanottoa ja kommentoi omaa teostaan, sekä otteita toisen painoksen (1978) lisämateriaalien käsikirjoitusliuskoista

    Abstract: "Aikamme kasvatus: vain muutos on pysyvää? -teos esittelee 14 eläytymismenetelmätutkimusta, jotka kaikki tarkastelevat kasvatuksen kentällä tapahtuneita muutoksia. Teoksessa pohditaan monia ajankohtaisia teemoja, kuten opetus- ja työtapojen muutosta eri koulutusasteilla, muutosjohtamista ja opetussuunnitelmatyötä sekä tulevaisuustaitoja. Teos tarjoaa näkökulman myös muun muassa siihen, miten lapset kokevat uutisten väkivaltakertomusten hahmot tai miten tytöt rakentavat kertomuksissaan tyttöyttä. Lisäksi teoksen ajankohtaisina teemoina pohditaan mm. erilaisia isyystyyppejä, nuorten kännykän käytön rajoittamista sekä ammattikoululaisten suhtautumista maahanmuuttajiin. Kaikkia edellä kuvattuja artikkeleita yhdistää kasvatuspainotteisen muutoksen tarkastelun ohella metodologinen yhteys: kaikkien artikkelien aineisto on kerätty eläytymismenetelmää käyttäen. Although the numbers are relatively low, the phenomenon is new and has thus given rise to a manifold societal debate. Määrät eivät ole suuria, mutta koska ilmiö on suhteellisen uusi, toiminta on herättänyt vilkasta yhteiskunnallista keskustelua puolesta ja vastaan.     Abstract: Nové pokyny OECD pro správu a řízení státem vlastněných společností poskytují mezinárodně dohodnuté měřítko, které pomůže vládám posoudit a zlepšit způsob, jakým vykonávají své vlastnické funkce ve státem vlastněných společnostech. Dobrá správa a řízení společnosti státních entit je v mnoha zemích klíčovou reformní prioritou. Zlepšení efektivity a větší transparentnosti ve státním sektoru bude mít za následek značné hospodářské zisky, zejména v zemích, kde je důležitá státní účast. Navíc, vytvoření rovných podmínek pro soukromé a státem vlastněné společnosti podpoří zdravý a konkurenceschopný podnikatelský sektor. Pokyny, které byly poprvé přijaty v roce 2005, poskytují řadu osvědčených postupů týkajících se právního a regulačního rámce pro státem vlastněné společnosti, profesionalizace vlastnické funkce státu a ujednání o správě a řízení státem vlastněných společností. Tato nová verze doporučení byla vyvinuta ve světle téměř desetileté zkušenosti s její implementací a řady tematických a srovnávacích studií, které byly vypracovány na základě dřívější verze pokynů a které ukázaly jejich potřebu a podpořili, jejich revize, a to i v oblastech, jako je zveřejňování a transparentnost, konkurence veřejného a soukromého sektoru, praktiky a postupy správních orgánů a financování státem vlastněných společností.

    Abstract: Muuttuvat suomalaiset äänimaisemat (Transforming Finnish Soundscapes, eds Heikki Uimonen, Meri Kytö & Kaisa Ruohonen) is a collection of research essays and texts that study the sonic environment and how it is experienced. Soundscapes related to time, place and the everyday shape our perception of the present and the past. Sounds can be pleasant and beautiful, pacing the day or year, annoying, boring and everything in between. The theme of transforming soundscapes combines the research essays in the publication. The essays draw from various disciplines and methodologies: media studies, anthropological field work and sensory observation, textual analysis and close reading, folkloristics, archeoacoustics and music studies. In turn, the texts gathered via a writing competition show how sounds can be listened to both analytically and aesthetically, connecting them to local, national and transnational cultures and histories pondering what sounds mean to the listeners and how they influence the soundscape they live in. The study is a revisit to the One Hundred Finnish Soundscapes project (2006)

    Abstract: "Urban planning and development are a meeting ground for different experiences and interpretations pertaining to the desireable city, and the ways in which citizens should genuinely be able to participate in the process. This multidisciplinary book explores broadly the question of how to best approach participation today. Instead of aiming at a singular interpretation, the book sets out to develop tools for a better understanding of the different logics behind urban development and citizen participation.     Abstract: "Kaupunkien kehittämisessä ja suunnittelussa kohtaavat erilaiset kokemukset ja tulkinnat hyvästä kaupungista sekä tavoista, joilla kansalaiset voivat olla prosessissa aidosti mukana. Tässä monitieteisessä teoksessa pohditaan miten osallistumista ja osallisuutta olisi tänä päivänä mielekästä lähestyä. Teoksessa ei tavoitella yhtä oikeaa tulkintaa, vaan luodaan välineitä ymmärtää kansalaisosallistumisen ja kaupunkikehityksen monitahoista logiikkaa. Kirjoittajat tarkastelevat teemoja hallinnon institutionaalisista rakenteista aina yksittäisen ihmisen kokemusmaailmaan saakka ja pohtivat monipuolisesti, mitä osallistuminen ja osallisuus lopulta ovat.     Abstract: "When Aleksis Kivi?s (1834?1872) Finnish tragedy Karkurit (?The Escapees?) was originally published in 1867 it was considered better than his two former plays, the Kalevalaic tragedy Kullervo (1864) and the comedy Nummisuutarit (?Heath Cobblers?, 1864). Soon these encouraging views, however, turned completely opposite. Dismissing attitudes towards Kivi?s play were dominant until the 1960s when new theatre productions made its artistic merits worthy of consideration again. The critical edition of Karkurit gives a new and more versatile image of Aleksis Kivi as a playwright and helps to understand his tragedy in the light of the changing artistic ideals of different periods and generations.The edition contains a scholarly edited and richly annotated text of the tragedy?s first edition. Expert introductions by leading authorities illuminate the multidimensional dramaturgy of the play and reflect its relation to the European drama traditions and the socio-historical context of 19th-century Finland.     Abstract: "Towards New Beginnings: Journalists? Descriptions about Ruptures in Media WorkThis volume reveals a previously untold view on changes in media work in Finland. Finnish journalists relate their experiences of being made redundant or deciding to resign, and their views on their profession in a time of flux. The data are based on telephone surveys, in-depth interviews and journalists? written accounts.Journalists are riddled with insecurity about their future. They feel they have borne the brunt of misplaced investments and the economic conjuncture, and their work motivation and creativity have suffered due to recurring layoffs in newsrooms. Support from employment authorities for finding a new job has also been practically non-existent, and coping with a career change has generated further stress and insecurity. However, journalists who have found new employment typically feel more comfortable in these jobs than in their former work. Career shifters have also been able to make use of their journalistic skills in their new jobs and identify themselves as journalists.The authors are from the Research Centre for Journalism, Media and Communication (COMET) at the University of Tampere, Finland. The study was funded by the Finnish Work Environment Fund and the Foundation for Promoting Journalistic Culture (JOKES)
    Abstract: " Teos tarjoaa uutta, kokemusperäistä tietoa toimittajista mediatyön murroksessa. Suomalaiset journalismin tekijät kertovat kokemuksistaan ja näkemyksistään, kun oma työsuhde päättyy irtisanomiseen tai irtisanoutumiseen ja kun oma ammatti käy läpi merkittävää murrosvaihetta. Toimittajien kokemuksia yt-neuvotteluista, työttömyydestä ja uudelleentyöllistymisestä on koottu teosta varten puhelinkyselyllä, teemahaastatteluin sekä toimittajien laatimilla kirjoitelmilla.Tutkimuksen mukaan toimittajia jäytää epävarmuus tulevaisuudesta. Ammattikunta kokee joutuneensa virheinvestointien ja suhdanteiden sijaiskärsijäksi, ja työmotivaatio sekä luovuus ovat kärsineet toistuvien yt-kierrosten takia. Uuden työn löytäminen on jäänyt jokaisen omalle kontolle; työvoimaviranomaisilta ei ole herunut edes rohkaisua uuteen alkuun. Vanhasta työstä luopuminen ja uuteen sopeutuminen ovat kuormittaneet ja luoneet epävarmuutta esimerkiksi pärjäämisestä. Tutkimukseen haastatellut uudelleentyöllistyneet toimittajat kertoivat silti viihtyvänsä uudessa työssä paremmin kuin edellisessä työpaikassa.     Abstract: "The dependency on social security: Social bums in disengaged society? In Finland, most discussion on the welfare state's condition has focused on stabilizing the public-sector's finances. However, more essential for the future of the welfare state is its' social foundation, meaning people?s experiences of fairness, equality and reliability of the society as well as the welfare state's capability of taking care of the most vulnerable groups of people.A functional welfare state combines economic stability with the social foundation. However in the mid 2010s there are cracks in the social foundation of the welfare state .In this book the cracks of welfare state's social foundation are analysed from the perspective of dependency on social security. Especially the Finns' attitudes and political divisions, policies, the length of customership of last-resort social security, the functionality of service and income transfer systems, social segmentation created by breadlines and coping on the last-resort social security are observed.The book is meant for all interested in the condition and future of the welfare state.     Abstract: "Encounters, breaks and bonds: a study of the mother work in the Supermammat peer groupThis study explores a peer group for mothers, which is presented by the pseudonym Supermammat. The group is a third sector agent, which has served mothers and their children almost three decades. In the Supermammat group mothers get opportunity for carrying out functional programme, taking their children to organized childcare, sharing peer support and receiving professional aid. In addition to weekly meetings, outings, camps and other recreational activities are organized in the group. The aim of the operation is to support motherhood.The objective of the study is to describe practices of supporting mothers in the operation of the Supermammat group. The objective is approached by treating group?s history, current operation and principles directing it together with workers and their job towards supporting mothers participating in the operation of the Supermammat group. However, the study par excellence gives voice to people for whom the group has established. It?s most central aim is to tell what kind of meaning the operation of the group has for mothers. This is ethnographically executed case study, which starting point is to explore restricted research subject by utilizing different perspectives and datas. The core data consists of interviews of mothers participated in the operation of the Supermammat group (N=23) and fieldnotes gathered during participant observation. In addition, interviews of persons worked on the group (N=11) are included in the data. The data gathered is supplemented by the documents from the operation of the group.Research findings indicate that the operation of the group has turned more professional and functionally more various in the course of time. The operation consists of many elements, reaches dozens of mothers annually and requires contribution of several agents. Participating in the operation gets it?s meaning as encounters, breaks and bonds. The group gives an opportunity for encounters forming both peer support and professional aid. At the same time, it constructs a chance of withdrawing from everyday life by producing breaks to mother?s routines. In addition, participating in the operation of the Supermammat group gives space for constructing an affinity, various relationships and connections fastened on the group
    Abstract: "Kohtaamisia, katkoksia ja sidoksia: tutkimus Supermammojen vertaisryhmän äitityöstäTämä tutkimus tarkastelee äitien vertaisryhmää, joka esiintyy peitenimellä Supermammat. Kyseessä on kolmannen sektorin toimija, joka on palvellut äitejä lapsineen lähestulkoon kolmen vuosikymmenen ajan. Supermammojen ryhmässä äidit saavat mahdollisuuden toiminnallisen ohjelman toteutukseen, järjestettyyn lastenhoitoon, vertaistuen jakamiseen ja ammatillisen avun vastaanottamiseen. Ryhmä kokoontuu viikoittain, jonka lisäksi järjestetään retkiä, leirejä ja muuta virkistystoimintaa. Toiminnan tavoitteeksi on asetettu äitiyden tukeminen.Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on kuvata käytäntöjä, joilla Supermammojen toiminnassa tuetaan siihen osallistuvia äitejä. Tavoitteeseen vastataan tarkastelemalla ryhmän historiaa, tämänhetkistä toimintaa ja sitä ohjaavia periaatteita sekä työntekijöitä ja tehtäviä, joita he toteuttavat Supermammojen toimintaan osallistuvien äitien tukemiseksi. Ennen kaikkea tutkimus kuitenkin antaa äänen ihmisille, joita varten Supermammojen ryhmä on perustettu. Sen keskeisin päämäärä on kertoa, millainen merkitys ryhmän toiminnalla on siihen osallistuneille äideille.Kyseessä on etnografisesti toteutettu tapaustutkimus, jonka lähtökohtana on rajatun tutkimuskohteen tarkastelu erilaisia näkökulmia ja aineistoja hyödyntäen. Keskeisin osa aineistoa ovat Supermammojen toimintaan osallistuneiden äitien haastattelut (N=23) ja osallistuvan havainnoinnin perusteella kirjatut kenttämuistiinpanot. Aineistoon kuuluu myös ryhmässä työskennelleiden henkilöiden haastatteluja (N=11) ja Supermammojen toiminnasta tuotettuja dokumentteja.Tutkimustulokset osoittavat, että Supermammojen toiminta on ajan kuluessa muuttunut paitsi professionaalisemmaksi myös toiminnallisesti moninaisemmaksi. Toiminta koostuu monista elementeistä, tavoittaa vuosittain kymmeniä äitejä ja vaatii toteutuakseen useiden toimijoiden työpanosta. Siihen osallistuminen saa merkityksensä kohtaamisina, katkoksina ja sidoksina. Ryhmä antaa mahdollisuuden kohtaamisille, joissa rakentuu sekä vertaistukea että ammatillista auttamista. Samalla se luo tilaisuuden arkielämästä irtaantumiselle tuottamalla katkoksia äidin arkeen. Lisäksi Supermammojen toimintaan osallistuminen antaa tilaa yhteenkuuluvuuden tunteen, moninaisten ihmissuhteiden ja ryhmään kiinnittyvien yhteyksien rakentumiselle

    Abstract: The growth of cultural diversity in Finnish social and health care workplaces challenges to develop not only ways of working and interaction but also organizational structures. Work communities as a whole are facing new challenges. The aim of this book is to help work communities develop well-functioning practices for intercultural work. Effective interaction between cultures provides the foundation not only for the well-being of staff and customers, but also for the financial success of the organization. The paper presents five action studies in the social and health care organization, which analyzed the abrasion points of everyday interaction, developed functional practices and corrective measures, and evaluated the effects of interventions. The aim of the project was to bring about structural reforms in support of inter-cultural work, since only the changes would become permanent

Edited by Rosi Enroos, Mikko Mäntysaari and Satu Ranta-Tyrkkö, the book asks what kind of elements make social work research meaningful and does social work research have a particular mission and specific ethical and moral obligations, when compared to other disciplines. The research on social work research being scanty in Finland, the book expands the discussion on the particular nature of social work research.Meaningful Research discusses social work research in general and the research of child protection in particular. The book consists of an introductory chapter and two thematic sections, Vantage Points to the Meaningfulness and Missions, and Meaningfulness and Missions of Child Protection Research.     Abstract: "Songs and writings: oral and literary cultures in early-modern Finland renews the understanding of exchange between the learned culture of clergymen and the culture of commoners, or ?folk?. What happened when the Reformation changed the position of the oral vernacular language to literary and ecclesiastical, and when folk beliefs seem to have become an object for more intensive surveillance and correction? How did clergymen understand and use the versatile labels of popular belief, paganism, superstition and Catholic fermentation? Why did they choose particular song languages, poetic modes and melodies for their Lutheran hymns and literary poems, and why did they avoid oral poetics in certain contexts while accentuating it in others? How were the hagiographical traditions representing the international medieval literary or ?great? tradition adapted to ?small? folk traditions, and how did they persist and change after the Reformation? What happened to the cult of the Virgin Mary in local oral traditions?The first Finnish 16th-century reformers admired the new Germanic models of Lutheran congregational hymns and avoided the Finnic vernacular Kalevala-metre idiom, while their successors picked up many vernacular traits, most notably alliteration, in their ecclesiastical poetry and hymns. Over the following centuries, the new features introduced via new Lutheran hymns such as accentual metres, end-rhymes and strophic structures were infusing into oral folk poetry, although this took place also via secular oral and literary routes.
