Kurzfassung:
The main concern of this study of managerial control in the Hong Kong subsidiary of a Japanese supermarket is to understand the multi-faceted control exercised by the company over both its Japanese and its local Hong Kong Chinese staff, and how staff react to it. The book examines the ways in of organising work, rank, compensation, and promotion inside a large Japanese company in Hong Kong, and its spiritual training, to reveal the socio-economic base of managerial control. A must for anthropologists and Japanologists.
