Abstract:
Mein Beitrag entsteht von einer Inkongruenz den beobachteten demographischen Daten zwischen gegenwärtigen Jäger-, Fischer- und Sammlergruppen (Abk. JFSG) (bspw. unterschiedliche Bevölkerungswachstumsraten, das Potenzial hohe Wachstumsraten zu erreichen, nachhaltige demographische Stabilität) und pleistozänen JFSG (bspw. niedrige Bevölkerungsdichte, mangelndes Bevölkerungswachstum). Seit langem wurde es vernachlässigt, dass das Bevölkerungswachstum in JFSG reguliert werden kann, indem die sozialen und reproduktiven Beziehungen zwischen Männern und Frauen in Eintracht mit ihren sozioökonomischen Aufgaben und Verhalten kontrolliert werden. Ich stelle einen alternativen Ansatz zur Erforschung der sozialen Organisation paläolithischer Bevölkerungen vor. Laut meiner Hypothese regulieren die Gesellschaften, deren Produktionsweise auf der Nutzung natürlicher Ressourcen basiert, ihre Reproduktion mittels sozialer Normen, um mit der Begrenztheit natürlicher Ressourcen umzugehen. Die Arbeit ist die grundlegende soziale Aktivität jeder Gesellschaft, und sie bestimmt die sozialen Beziehungen zwischen den Menschen.
Abstract:
There is an incongruity between the demographic data observed among contemporary hunter-fisher-gatherers (e.g. existence of different growth rates, capability of achieving high growing rates, long-term demographic stability) and that of Pleistocene hunter-fisher-gatherers (e.g. low population density, lack of demographic expansion). For long, it has been neglected that population growth among hunter-fisher-gatherers can also be regulated by controlling the social relations and reproductive relations between men and women, accordingly to their socioeconomic roles and behaviour. I present here a methodological proposal whose aim is to develop an alternative approach towards the research of the social organization of Palaeolithic populations. The hypothesis I present establishes that societies, whose mode of production is based on the exploitation of natural resources, socially regulate their reproduction in order to cope with the limits of the natural resources. I consider labour to be the basic social activity within any society, and it inherently establishes the character of the social relations between the individuals.
