Abstract: This work reconstructs the political-intellectual trajectory of the Socialist Party of Chile between 1932 and 1973, reviewing its emergence and development in national political life through key moments for the development of party reflection. As stated in its pages, these moments frequently exceeded the limits of party life, being linked to events and processes typical of the global, continental and national political development of the 20th century. It is argued that during the period in question there were a series of debates that accounted for different stages in the organizational, social and intellectual development of contemporary Chilean socialism. These debates were framed in three key concepts that were frequently discussed throughout the trajectory: class, anti-imperialism and revolution. At different times, and with different meanings, the trends defined themselves and their organization as class, anti-imperialist and revolutionary, without there being a consensus on the political and programmatic scope of these definitions

Abstract: The Christian Democratic Party has been a key piece in the more general insertion of Chilean politics in the great political-ideological trends that dominated the second half of the 20th century. During the past century, relations between external and Chilean political actors were framed in the context of great processes and dilemmas of global relevance: the Cold War and the more general competition between holistic social projects, the emerging concern for human rights, the experience of post-dictatorial transitions in Southern Europe, among others. These external actors played a very relevant role in promoting the political exit strategy from the Chilean dictatorship which, by converging with internal factors, had an important impact in determining the guidelines of the transition. Local political actors, such as the PDC, far from being pieces in the hands of external referents, played a leading role, using their international networks to consolidate and consolidate their political project. Unlike other works that have addressed the international dimension of the transition, the focus of this book is not the economic or the ideological aspects, but rather the political centrality of an actor, the Christian Democratic Party, and the capacity that it it had to consolidate at the international level its position of reference for the return to democracy in Chile

Abstract: The American events of the early nineteenth century, in addition to their strictly political and administrative aspects, also involved the installation of nascent modes of expression and meaning of the public word and writing. Those that developed in this sense in Buenos Aires at that time represent what, nuances more nuances less, also happened in the other urban centers of the region, rushing towards a wide panorama of changes in the forms and functions of discourse in its different arrays

Abstract: This book tells a history of music in Chile from the perspective of labor, which has not been sufficiently explored until now. Instead of prioritizing the work of art, the author puts the work of the musicians and their union organizations at the center. She builds the story from various sources, many of them unpublished and written by the musicians who worked between 1893 and 1940, in Valparaíso, Chile

Abstract: The works collected in this book converge in the recognition of journals, intellectuals and writers as decisive instances of research and expand the possibilities of envisioning the training of readers capable of recognizing the materiality of their proposals, insofar as they are inscribed in broader discussions of social configuration. Intellectuals and magazines that assimilate social functions where the echoes of larger assemblages overflow to propose new features focused from Latin American countries, which warn of the signs of emerging itineraries in dispute

Abstract: This book analyzes the uses of music in the cinema in Chile in terms of meaning and interpretation, considering the socio-political circumstances that have marked the country during the 20th century. The time frame of this research ranges from 1939 when the sustained production of films with optical sound was established in the country and 1973, when the civil-military coup d'état destroyed all the pillars of the cultural field in Chile and many filmmakers and composers left for the exile. This work aims to challenge existing historiography and research by emphasizing the sound dimension of Chilean cinema. Far from being a secondary and decorative aspect, music has been a central element in different moments and practices of Chilean cinema both internally in its formal and narrative proposals and externally in its discursiveness and links with the social and political

Abstract: The definitive crisis of the system in force in Iberian America for 300 years had global consequences, being a phenomenon that was conclusive for the establishment of the hegemony of the West in the 19th and 20th centuries. In And the independence of Ibero-America was made, a set of significant contributions are presented, made from different approaches, but with a comprehensive perspective, which are intended to contribute to a necessary general perception of the study of Latin American independencies. In this way, this book participates in the rich debate in the shadow of the commemorations for the bicentennial, raised with the intention of overcoming local or traditional approaches that, we are sure, will lead to a resignification of the Ibero-American independencies within the interpretation of the creation of Contemporaneity, not only in the Western Hemisphere but in the whole of humanity

Abstract: This book examines the social construction of legal relations between people and things in Brazil during the 19th century through the analysis of court cases discussing dominion and possession over slaves and land. The chapters address topics such as the role of social recognition in situations of possession, the process of delegitimizing acts of land usage from indigenous peoples, dependent persons and women, and the widespread illegal acquisition of slaves and land

Abstract: This work, the result of initiatives that brings together several universities and specialists in the country, appears when a century has passed since the emergence of the history of international relations as a historical sub-discipline. For this reason, it has seemed relevant to us to signify this commemoration by addressing a theme that has its roots in the field of studies mentioned. Indeed, much has been written about the 1904 Treaty, both in Chile and Bolivia, hence we already see a series of recent studies that have clarified this process. For this reason, this book does not deal with the agreement itself, but with its relevance as a milestone in a decisive change in Chile's trajectory as the winner of the War of the Pacific, until 1929

Abstract: The volume that the reader has in his hands (or on his screen) constitutes a selection of the studies presented at the international congress “1820. The Illusion of Freedom. Revolutionary liberalism in Spain and America in the 1920s ”, held in Las Cabezas de San Juan and Seville in March 2020, as a way to reflect (and celebrate, of course) the bicentennial of the revolution that began the so-called Liberal Triennium Spanish. The anniversary functioned as an excuse to analyze relevant problems of the present. In this case, the congress returned to the links between a stagnant society, which had nothing else to offer, and one of the most important revolutions that took place in the Iberian Peninsula. This was done through the presentation of a set of investigations that addressed the economic, political, social and cultural aspects of the Spanish revolution of 1820, and that crossed the Ibero-American world in the first half of the 19th century. It was a collective effort, which we hope we have embodied in this compilation

Abstract: Ecclesiastical institutions and actors were essential for the for-mation of normative orders in early modern Ibero-America. In a series of seminars, organised by the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History in Mexico City, Lima, Bogotá and São Paulo, scholars from different disciplines presented innovative studies on the history of religious normativity and its practices. Based upon the Bogotá colloquium, the present volume fo-cuses on the New Kingdom of Granada (16th – 19th centuries)

On the other hand, since an internal policy perspective, was the period that basically coincided with the development and crisis of the parliamentary republic
