    Abstract: This volume explores some of the many different meanings of community across medieval Eurasia. How did the three 'universal religions, Christianity, Islam and Buddhism, frame the emergence of various types of community under their sway?     Abstract: "Caste and gender are forms of social difference that typically have been addressed in isolation from each other: a presumptive maleness is present in most studies of Dalits, and a presumptive upper-casteness is present in many feminist studies of colonial India. The Gender of Caste enters new territory in its exploration of the gender of caste through representations of Dalits in print media in colonial north India. Among its subjects are images of Dalit women as victims and vamps, the construction of Dalit masculinities, religious conversion as an alternative to entrapment in the Hindu caste system, and the plight of indentured servants. An array of textual and pictorial material pertaining to Dalits is drawn from reformist, popular, and didactic literature; police reports; missionary records; and cartoons. The barriers are alleged to be located above all within the family. Their culturally specific interpretation of disability, according to this assumption, does not correspond to the expectations of empowerment in disability services. To confront this one-dimensional perspective, Donja Amirpur illustrates the complex life situations of these families. Through interviews and with the help of an intersectional, multi-faceted analysis, she depicts the barriers in the support system, and promotes a critical confrontation with hegemonic practices on a structural level
    Abstract: Warum werden Familien an der Schnittstelle von Migration und Behinderung durch die Behindertenhilfe kaum erreicht? Fachliteratur und Wissenschaft scheinen sich einig zu sein: Sie sprechen von einer 〉〉kulturellen Fremdheit〈〈 der Familien, die den Zugang zum Hilfesystem behindere. Ähnlich ist die Meinung in den Diensten und Einrichtungen der Behindertenhilfe. Eine andere kulturspezifische Deutung von Behinderung, ein anderer Umgang mit dem behinderten Kind ? das entspreche nicht der Vorstellung der Behindertenhilfe. Stimmen diese Annahmen? Die Studie von Donja Amirpur kommt zu anderen Ergebnissen. Sie illustriert die komplexen Lebenslagen der Familien.     Abstract: "The rich history of the German rabbinate came to an abrupt halt with the November Pogrom of 1938. The need to leave Germany became clear and many rabbis made use of the visas they had been offered. Their resettlement in Britain was hampered by additional obstacles such as internment, deportation, enlistment in the Pioneer Corps. But rabbis still attempted to support their fellow refugees with spiritual and pastoral care. The refugee rabbis replanted the seed of the once proud German Judaism into British soil. New synagogues were founded and institutions of Jewish learning sprung up, like rabbinic training and the continuation of ""Wissenschaft des Judentums."" The arrival of Leo Baeck professionalized these efforts and resulted in the foundation of the Leo Baeck College in London. Refugee rabbis now settled and obtained pulpits in the many newly founded synagogues. Their arrival in Britain was the catalyst for much change in British Judaism, an influence that can still be felt today."

Und sie führten dazu, dass im Berliner Reichstag Abgeordnete wetterten, die Mission der Zivilisierung in Afrika werde durch brutale Kolonialbeamte gefährdet. Lebendig schildert Rebekka Habermas die Beziehungen, Interessen und Motive der Beteiligten, den Rassismus und Alltag vor Ort und die kolonialen Echos, die der Skandal in der Gesellschaft des deutschen Kaiserreichs hervorrief. Damit bietet sie neue, erstaunliche Einblicke - eine glänzend erzählte Mikrogeschichte des Kolonialismus und ein wichtiger Beitrag zur Kolonialgeschichte. „Mit "Skandal in Togo" legt Rebekka Habermas eine fundierte Fallstudie über ein weithin unbekanntes Kapitel deutscher Kolonialgeschichte vor. Plastic Reason is a study of the efforts of a few Parisian neurobiologists to undermine this rigid conception of the central nervous system and to show that basic embryogenetic processes--most spectacularly the emergence of new cellular tissue in form of new neurons, axons, dendrites, and synapses--continue in the mature brain. Furthermore, these researchers sought to demonstrate that the new tissues are still unspecific and hence literally plastic, and that this cellular plasticity is constitutive of the possibility of the human. Plastic Reason, grounded in years of fieldwork and historical research, is an anthropologist's account of what has arguably been one of the most sweeping events in the history of brain research--the highly contested effort to consider the adult brain in embryogenetic terms.     Abstract: In der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jhs. baute Deutschland ein weites Kolonialreich auf. Dass dieser Teil der deutschen Geschichte heute oft vergessen ist, hängt mit dem frühen Verlust der Kolonien nach der Niederlage im Westen Weltkrieg zusammen. Kolonialgeschichte aber ist ein zentraler Teil einer gemeinsamen Geschichte von Europa und dem 'Rest der Welt'. Die Ausstellung in Berlin thematisiert Herrschaftspraxis und wirtschaftliche Ausbeutung sowie den Umgang mit der einheimischen Bevölkerung bis hin zum Völkermord. Forschungsreisen und christliche Missionierung spielen ebenso eine Rolle wie das Schicksal von in 'Völkerschauen' gezeigten Afrikanern. 0Exhibition: Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin, Germany (14.10.16 - 14.05.2017)
