Abstract: "The book examines selected faith-based organisations (FBOs) and their attempts to seek to influence debate and decision-making at the United Nations (UN). Increasing attention on FBOs in this context has followed what is widely understood as a widespread, post-Cold War 'religious resurgence', which characterises a novel 'postsecular' international environment. One aspect of the new postsecular environment is increasing focus on global public policy at the UN, from FBOs from various religious traditions, especially Christianity, Islam, and Judaism"--
Abstract: ""Finally there is a book that addresses the increasing presence and relevance of faith-based organizations at the UN. In his coherent and accessible analysis, Jeffrey Haynes shows how FBOs navigate UN's liberal secular ethos with an eye on their ideological differences. With its stimulating discussion of issue areas ranging from reproductive health rights to economic development, the book will generate considerable reflection on the role of FBOs in global governance." Abstract: "When scholarship presents the histories, belief systems, and ritual patterns of specific religious groups, it often privileges victorious and élite fractions of those communities to the detriment and neglect of alternative, dissonant, and resurgent voices. The contributions in this volume, which include case studies on various religions and academic contexts, illustrate the importance of listening to those alternative voices for the study of religion."--Back cover

Abstract: The historiography of African religions and religions in Africa presents a remarkable shift from the study of `Africa as Object` to `Africa as Subject`, thus translating the subject from obscurity into the global community of the academic study of religion. This book presents a unique multidisciplinary exploration of African traditions in the study of religion in Africa and the new African diaspora. The book is structured under three main sections - Emerging trends in the teaching of African Religions; Indigenous Thought and Spirituality; and Christianity, Hinduism and Islam. Contributors drawn from diverse African and global contexts situate current scholarly traditions of the study of African religions within the purview of academic encounter and exchanges with non-African scholars and non-African contexts. African scholars enrich the study of religions from their respective academic and methodological orientations. Jacob Kehinde Olupona stands out as a pioneer in the socio-scientific interpretation of African indigenous religion and religions in Africa. This book is to his honour and marks his immense contribution to an emerging field of study and research.
