    Abstract: Diverticulosis refers to an outpouching of colonic mucosa and submucosa outside of the intestinal lumen. It commonly occurs around the penetrating blood vessels. It can occur in any segment of the bowels; however, the sigmoid colon is the most affected segment. Diverticulosis (the presence of diverticula in the colon) remains asymptomatic in most individuals, but approximately 25% of people with diverticulosis will experience symptomatic diverticulosis, which is referred to as diverticular disease. In the past two decades, diverticular disease has become one of the most commonly diagnosed bowel disorders. It is seen across the globe and its incidence is high, especially in Western countries. It is estimated that in many developed countries around 50% of the population older than 50 years is affected by diverticular disease. It was once believed to be associated with increasing age, however, in recent studies, its prevalence in younger populations has increased. In about 10%–25% of patients with diverticulosis, the disease progresses and leads to diverticulitis. Many theories have been suggested for the different etiologies of diverticular disease, and the most common cause is believed to be a low-fiber diet. It is believed that diets low in fiber are associated with increased intracolonic pressure, which leads to diverticula formation. Diverticular disease can have variable clinical presentations. Most often it presents as abdominal pain or change in bowel habits and rectal bleeding. Its clinical picture can at times mimic inflammatory bowel disease or bowel malignancy. Its common sequelae include diverticulitis, perforation, and peri-colic abscess/phlegmon. The complications of diverticular disease include abscess, fistula, and bowel strictures. Small or localized collections can be managed with intravenous antibiotics and depending on the available resources, intervention radiology can also be used to manage such cases. CT scan is considered a more specific technique for diagnosis. It can also be used for reviewing the patient's progress to treatment, with serial scans over time. It is also used for treating some complications, such as performing percutaneous drainage of abdominal abscesses

Risk assessment, therefore, has to be done over the entire system of CIs and should also include the social and personal impacts. According to a 2022 report, 80% of cities have been affected by significant climate change hazards represented by extreme heat (46%), heavy rainfall (36%), drought (35%), and floods (33%). The impacts of climate change, therefore, affect the complex system of the built environment and result in interrelated consequences at different scales ranging from single buildings to urban spaces and territorial infrastructures. Since it is not possible to reduce the severity of natural hazards, the main opportunity for lowering risk lies in reducing vulnerability and exposure. Vulnerability and exposure are related to urban development choices and practices that weaken the system’s robustness. This volume reviews recent insights from risk identification and reduction to preparedness and financial protection strategies and proposes new approaches for better CIs and built environment protection

    Abstract: COVID wrought havoc on the world’s economic systems. Higher education did not escape the ravages brought on by the pandemic as institutions of higher education around the world faced major upheavals in their educational delivery systems. Some institutions were prepared for the required transition to online learning. Most were not. Whether prepared or not, educators rose to the challenge. The innovativeness of educators met the challenges as digital learning replaced the face-to-face environment. In fact, some of the distance models proved so engaging that many students no longer desire a return to the face-to-face model. As with all transitions, some things were lost while others were gained. This book examines practice in the field as institutions struggled to face the worst global pandemic in the last century. The book is organized into four sections on “Embracing Quality Assurance”, “Educational Standards and Quality Assurance”, “Evaluating Educational Access” and “Why Assessment?”. It presents various perspectives from educators around the world to illustrate the struggles and triumphs of those facing new challenges and implementing new ideas to empower the educational process. These discussions shed light on the impact of the pandemic and the future of higher education post-COVID. Higher education has been forever changed, and higher education as it once was may never return. While many questions arise, the achievements in meeting and overcoming the pandemic illustrate the creativity and innovativeness of educators around the world who inspired future generations of learners to reach new heights of accomplishment even in the face of the pandemic

Shoulder pathology is primarily diagnosed by history and physical examination, but MRIs and CT scans are also very helpful for diagnosis. The mainstay of treatment involves early identification before the onset of degenerative changes, physical therapy exercises to strengthen the shoulder girdle, and pharmacological interventions to decrease inflammation. Open and arthroscopic techniques have advanced in the last decade, minimizing the possibility of rotator cuff arthropathy and arthritis.     Abstract: This book deals with the evolution of active plate margins, with a focus on the Pacific NW. A multidisciplinary study aiming at the elucidation of complicated tectonic processes is based on structural geology, sedimentology, numerical modeling, and the latest methodology of geophysics. A high-resolution 3D seismic data acquisition system was developed for visualization of the shallow subsurface and has revealed recent architectures and sedimentary facies in a pull-apart basin along an arc-bisecting fault of southwest Japan. Based on this geophysical achievement, paleoenvironments during the latest Pleistocene are vividly restored by means of seismic attribute analyses. The scientific results presented here pave the way for further investigations on mobile belt frontiers where harsh conditions hinder efforts to decipher the Earth’s dynamics

    Abstract: Satellite radar altimetry, as one of the basic space measurement techniques intended primarily for solving global geoscientific tasks by means of radar measurements from satellites towards the Earth, has become, primarily due to its accuracy, a key spatial technique for observing the ocean surface as well as many aspects of the land surface. During the last more than three decades, satellite altimetry has revolutionized the geosciences, especially oceanography, geophysics, and geodesy, enabling a much better understanding of the shape of the Earth’s sea level and its changes over time. In this way, it is possible to monitor natural- and human-induced changes in the balance of water masses. For researchers in the field of geosciences, satellite radar altimetry ensures the collection of high-precision global data of uniform accuracy on sea level and therefore is essential for quality unification of vertical height systems, regional and global geoid and gravity, as well as bathymetry modelling, monitoring the impact of sea level rise as well as the vertical movement of the Earth’s crust in coastal areas, ice melting detection, and more, all of which have a significant impact on climate and environmental studies. This book provides an up-to-date overview of the technology itself and some recent developments in using altimeter data to determine sea-level changes and sea-level variability, modelling marine bathymetry from satellite altimeter-derived gravity data, including the related issue of solving terrain corrections for gravity reduction, as well as the possibility of applying artificial intelligence in the monitoring of Earth’s changes
