Abstract: Unravel follows the western worlds least wanted clothes, on a journey across northern India, from sea to industrial interior. They get sent to Panipat, a sleepy town and the only place in the world that wants them, recycling them back into yarn. Reshma is a bright, inquisitive woman working in a textile recycling factory in small time India, who dreams of travelling the vast distances the clothes she handles have. While Reshma shows us how these garments get transformed, she and other women workers reflect on these cloths. Despite limited exposure to western culture, they construct a picture of how the west is, using both their imagination and the rumours that travel with the cast-offs.--Original container.

    Keywords: Water-supply ; Water-supply Economic aspects ; Water-supply Government policy ; Water rights ; Water ; Water Social aspects ; Bhutan ; Documentary films.
Abstract: In India water has a deep spiritual and functional significance. The Rising Wave explores both these aspects; worshipped as a sacred common while also being essential for generating livelihood. The film eloquently presents a culture built on water being shared, used and managed in ways unchanged for centuries. Richly filmed in three different states of India, The Rising Wave uncovers groups that have been dependant on their local natural water resource for generations as they fish and farm for livelihood. In the rapidly transforming economy of India, corporations now lay claim to control and determine access to this natural resource. A contrasting picture emerges; a contrast between the two divergent views of water; water as a billion dollar industry against water as a sacred natural gift for all humankind. This spells conflict for the future.

Abstract: Everyone knows the concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz. But, have you heard of a small Polish town named Oświęcim? A young team of filmmakers arrives at this site, where a bizarre memory conflict between Polish and Jewish remembrances on the Holocaust takes place. The filmmakers find themselves caught in the crossfire of the conflict's parties. While the Jews want to defend their right of memory connected to the sites of the camps, the Poles just want a normal life. Is it really that simple? Is Auschwitz primarily a site of Polish suffering? Do Jewish Holocaust survivors have the right to dispel the Polish inhabitants of apartments on the camp's grounds by force? Or do the Poles have the right to locate their settlements and wheat fields above the ashes of tens of thousands of gassed and burned Jews?

Abstract: "Q2P is a film about toilets and the city. It sifts through the dream of Mumbai as a future Shanghai and searches for public toilets, watching who has to queue to pee. As the film observes who has access to toilets and who doesn't, we begin to also see the imagination of gender that underlies the city's shape, the constantly shifting boundaries between public and private space; we learn of small acts of survival that people in the city's bottom half cobble together and quixotic ideas of social change that thrive with mixed results; we hear the silence that surrounds toilets and sense how similar it is to the silence that surrounds inequality. The toilet becomes a riddle with many answers and some of those answers are questions--about gender, about class, about caste and most of all about space, urban development and the twisted myth of the global metropolis"--Original container.

Abstract: A-long comes from a long line of dragon dancers and is driven to prove his own worth. A pride to their town of Longphozai, his family has always observed cultural traditions and respected the village leaders -- unlike A-long's childhood sweetheart Fengmei. Wilful and rebellious, Fengmei is determined to be with A-long even if it means flouting the Huayao tradition by joining A-long's dragon dance team. Her impulsive charisma drives the team into numerous fixes and repeatedly brings the wrath of the village elder down upon a frustrated, confused A-long. But with a major dragon dance competition approaching, can A-long and Fengmei learn to balance their love with their cultural traditions? Or will they be forced to sacrifice one for the other? This lighthearted comedy deftly intertwines traditional Huayao song, dress and dance to illustrate the role of historical tradition in modern young love, and shot with brilliant scenery of China's countryside. Abstract: The last orthodox synagogue in Makó was renewed and inaugurated in 2002. The little temple, as they call it, is more than a hundred years old and represents the link between the Jews who emigrated from this town in the south-eastern part of Hungary. The various members of the community have built new lives elsewhere whilst holding on to the values of their cultural past. Scenes were shot on location in Israel, United Kingdom and the United States portraying the lives of the Jewish members of the ex community. Abstract: Kusum is a 14-year-old Indian girl. She lives and attends school in Delhi. Kaushal, her father, drives a motorised rickshaw and works his fingers to the bone to support his family. Sumitra, Kusum's mother, is about to have a baby. Kusum's family is poor, but their life isn't too bad, until Kusum falls ill. She isolates herself, she has raving fits and she refuses to eat properly. Her family takes her to see a doctor, but no physical illness can be found. It's evil spirits, say the neighbours. Kusum, Kaushal and Aunt Suman journey to the neighbouring town of Hapur, where Bhagat the healer lives. Bhagat is well-known throughout the region, and people travel hundreds of miles to see him. Bhagat's methods include conversation, rituals and herbal treatments. Joint trance sessions in which spirits talk constitute the core of his methodology. Should a patient fail to enter a trance, Bhagat's assistant Meena takes the spirits into herself and is entranced on behalf of the patient. Bhagat examines the family and orders treatment.

Abstract: During her summer vacation, Dawa returned to Lhasa to see her grandparents. Unfortunately her grandfather was ill and dying. During this time, her grandmother, Yixi Zhuoma, told Dawa her love stories with three men. The first man in Yixi's life was Jiacuo, a strong mule boy from Kangba. At the same time Gongsa, the young master of Luoga Garden, had fallen in love with Yixi. Jiacuo was not persuaded and eloped with Yixi and married her. Their marriage and Jiacuo's great energy brought Yixi a very happy and romantic time in her life. However, as a mule boy, Jiacuo was used to an unstable lifestyle, which drove Yixi back to Gongsa. During the 1950s, Gongsa fled with the Dalai Lama and took Yixi's youngest son with him, asserting that the son was his. In the meantime, Jiacuo could not tolerate Yixi's betrayal and decided to return to his hometown, Kongba, with his oldest daughter. Several years later, when Yixi got the news that Jiacuo was seriously ill, she immediately decided to begin her difficult and dangerous journey searching for her husband. During that difficult time, she met her old friend Songqiu Lama, who was her third man as well as her forever lover in her life. In their youth, they used to spend a lot of time together, and Songqiu taught Yixi how to write and sing. Unfortunately, they were separated after Songqiu became a monk. With the coming of the Cultural Revolution, Songqiu was forced to leave his temple and lived as an ordinary man again. This enabled him to accompany Yixi to continue her difficult journey. He also encouraged Yixi to return to her husband and he would like to go back to being a Lama again. Dawa sets out to find these men. Abstract: Based on 'The Meek One', a short story by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, a 40-year-old antique shop owner and money lender recounts his first meetings with his 17-year-old wife, when she pawned her items at his shop. As the film progresses, their marriage is revealed to be an unhappy one with his wife growing increasingly distant and contemptuous of him. Their relationship gets more complicated with each quarrel and consequent reconciliation, even driving his wife to point a gun to his head. Sadly, it is ultimately she herself who gets destroyed. A languidly-paced drama that is a departure from the average Indian narrative film, told largely through the internal monologue of the husband. Abstract: In 1900 a twelve-year-old girl, Xiaoxiao, comes to a mountain village to discover that her uncle has arranged a marriage with a boy who is still breast-fed at two. Strict clan rules govern all behaviors, and she becomes her husband's nanny (he must call her sister until he is old enough to marry her). In one scene, the villagers are discussing a group of schoolgirls who are allowed to marry whomever they want, and who enjoy reading and a degree of freedom that Xiaoxiao longs for. Huagou, a local peasant, takes notice of Xiaoxiao, now sixteen and taking good care of six-year-old Chunguan, and a love affair begins with terrifying consequences. She knows the feudal values her community clings to, and watches them strip and drown a young widow who has been unfaithful to her husband. That woman's lover lives, albeit with broken legs. And what will happen to her?
