Abstract:
With clear and precise language, from unpublished sources, press and interviews, Raúl H. Asensio goes through the history of the enhancement of Peruvian pre-Hispanic monuments from the nineteenth century to the present. Far from the traditional histories of archeology, the author takes us from the conference rooms and the halls of the museums to the exhausting days of excavation, in an effort to present new perspectives on the work of archaeologists. We will thus know the successes and disappointments, the controversies and rivalries, the competition with other social sciences and the conflicts that arises from the presence of archaeologists in rural populations. And, above all, we will approach the ambiguous relationship of archaeologists with the other great group that struggles for the control of pre-Hispanic ruins: the huaqueros
