Abstract:
Student counselling is taking place within a rapidly changing context, the future of student counselling depends on practitioners' ability to learn from the past but also on their capacity to speak clearly and uncompromisingly about their work in the present. In this book Elsa Bell traces the history and development of counselling in further and higher education. She shows how, just as in a counselling session, the past is evident and powerful in the present. Illustrations from current work show the complexities of student counselling in practice and highlight the need for highly skilled practitioners who are capable of dealing with a wide range of people and problems. The book argues that central to student counselling is the need for a sophisticated understanding of organizations and their impact on individuals and on counselling practice.
