Abstract:
Going Back There Now , Dan Toren's debut book, is a mostly autobiographical work, bound in six chapters and presents memories and thoughts about the place of sounds in his life as a musician, singer and creator. In he bittersweet stories, Toren tells in the first person about songs he wrote with Berry Sakharof, Maor Cohen and others, about the late 80s in Tel Aviv and about the deep connections with other composers, including Shuli Rand, Shmulik Levy and Yosef El Dro. Returning there now is a journey back and forth in time - from the 60s in the bee garden of his Tel Aviv hildhood, through various performances in Israel and around the world, a surprising entry into Gaza in the 90s, a tour in the United States with Dana Berger in 2012, and more variety of stages and travels . At all points in time and place the author shares with readers small and large insights into the meaning of the work in life. This is my story about sounds and songs and about myself. I tried to capture in words the sea of images and sounds, to which I dived as a teenager and from which I never got out. I tried to describe what led me to be a person who lived with music within music - with songs, creation and performances even at times when it was perceived as impossible. I tried again to meet the people who were with me then, to describe the events and tell the stories that led me to live within rock and roll in Hebrew, in a country where rock and roll is not part of the mainstream, neither in music nor at all
