    Abstract: The book deals with the key aspects of social and economic inequalities developed during the transition of the formerly planned European economies. Particular emphasis is given to the latest years available in order to consider the effects of the global crisis started in 2008-2009, The aim of the book is to investigate, theoretically and empirically, key aspects of social and economic inequalities that developed during the transition of the formerly planned European economies. Although the focus is mainly on new EU member states, coverage of the analysis is extended to countries of the former Soviet Union and former Yugoslavia wherever possible. The empirical analyses generally consider the two decades after the start of transition; however, particular emphasis is given to more recent years in order to consider the effects of the global crisis that began in 2008-2009. All analyses are carried out adopting a comparative perspective and, whenever possible, Western EU members are used as benchmarks.     Abstract: This book contributes to the growing literature on men and masculinities, but does so through a methodological lens. It addresses methodological approaches and challenges for feminist and pro-feminist studies of men and masculinities, Feminist researchers have produced a large body of critical scholarship on methodologies as they pertain to the study of women. However, questions about issues such as power, positionality and ethics in research related to men and masculinities have remained largely unaddressed. This is despite the fact that research on men and masculinities has grown exponentially in recent years, as is evidenced by the increasing number of scholarly books and journals on the subject. In this book researchers reflect on their experiences of studying men and masculinities from the perspective of topics ranging from internet dating and violence to social inclusion and rock climbing. They also canvass how we can address difference and diversity amongst men and between masculinities in our methodological approaches. Within the WTO evidence of the institutionalization of the norm can be found both in the agreements and legal documents and the way in which the LDCs have been treated by other states. She shows that few studies of international organisations focus on the role of the weaker states in the organization, the majority focus either on the major states or the emerging economies.     Abstract: Both Taiwan and China are extremely populous nations that, due to population pressures and continuing high growth levels, have experienced challenges in sustainable development. Hsu illustrates Taiwan's path toward sustainable development and contrasts it to that of China, suggesting ways in which Taiwan can help China implement its environmental and social policies, and in which China might help Taiwan continue its path toward sustainable environmental and social policies. She explains that although Taiwan is a small compared to China, some aspects of its development model can (and should) be scaled up for larger countries. The importance of regulation enforcement is clear regarding Taiwan's environmental protection program, as is the promotion of small and medium sized enterprises in promoting income and social equality. Similarly, China's experimental methodology - using small areas to explore different ways of living or different technologies - can be useful in Taiwan. In Lessons in Sustainable Development, Hsu examines China and Taiwan in terms of inequality and environmental issues

    Abstract: With the end of the Cold War at the end of the twentieth century, the post-socialist transition in Central and Eastern Europe, China and Vietnam, the impressive growth of India, and the rapid spread of globalization, today's world is vastly different from that of two or three decades ago. Many of these changes are closely related to the concerns of economics and, in particular, institutional economics, which has been brought to the forefront due to the analysis of institutions in transition economies, and the realisation of how large a part they play in a successful market economy. With the aim of providing a comprehensive analysis of institutions, and of the global economy more generally, this volume explores systems of institutions, the interactions between institutions, and the effect that corruption can have on them.     Abstract: Reconstruction from conflict is a complex and demanding task, and a major challenge for post-conflict countries as well as the international community. Countries and their donor partners face multiple priorities - rebuilding infrastructure, assisting war-damaged communities, and re-creating weakened institutions - with too few resources to meet these needs. Moreover, if the poor are not prioritized then the end of war may have saved lives, but will have done little for livelihoods. And women are often left behind. Without reconstruction, countries may easily regress back to war. This book provides an insight into some of the principal issues that arise in post-conflict economic and social reconstruction, and offers examples of what works, and what does not.
