    Abstract: El libro presenta once trabajos sobre un debate historiográfico, el estudio de cómo se construyeron y asimilaron las diferencias humanas y culturales. Aunque concede una atención especial a América hasta el siglo XIX, integra otros espacios relacionados con la España colonial como Filipinas o Marruecos. La percepción del otro, comenzando por quién designa y es designado como otro, no es un tema nuevo en la historiografía, pero sigue vigente por su capacidad de integrar las visiones de dominadores y dominados, por su metodología interdisciplinar (representada en el libro por la colaboración de historiadores, historiadores del arte o antropólogos) y por la naturaleza universal de algunas de sus conclusiones, las cuales permiten relacionarlo con el presente. En resumen, una propuesta amplia e integradora que interroga al pasado sobre un tema definitorio del ser humano y que, por eso, nunca deja de ser actual. Quizás, si comprendemos los fenómenos de identidad y alteridad como construcciones culturales, podamos favorecer la formación de sociedades más respetuosas y pacíficas

    Abstract: La sociedad globalizada se caracteriza cada vez más por los cruces de fronteras no solo geopolíticas sino también simbólicas, culturales, identitarias, lingüísticas o disciplinarias. Cruces de fronteras son también los procesos de negociación cultural y transculturación en las intersecciones de categorías nacionales, sociales, culturales e identitarias de género, clase, orientación sexual, raza y etnia. Este volumen responde a la crisis actual del hispanismo, reflejada en la obsolescencia de los rígidos modelos filológicos, el canon de las literaturas nacionales y el legado de las ideologías posimperiales, ineficaces para estudiar la diversidad social y cultural, la hibridación y la poscolonialidad en el nuevo contexto global. La cultura española contemporánea no se puede entender plenamente sin considerar sus encrucijadas globales y sus fantasmas poscoloniales. El poshispanismo propone una redefinición de los parámetros de los estudios hispánicos para responder a esta compleja realidad, ampliando los marcos y metodologías de los estudios culturales ibéricos y abriéndose hacia perspectivas transatlánticas y transpacíficas. La presente investigación examina estas encrucijadas reales y simbólicas de las prácticas culturales y representaciones literarias y visuales en el ámbito poshispánico, en el marco de los siglos XX y XXI.

    Abstract: Trans-afrohispanismos: puentes culturales críticos entre África, Latinoamérica y España is an innovative approach to Afro-Hispanic Studies. It focuses on the connections between peoples, territories, and media of expression at the confluence of Africa and the Hispanic world. The volume’s contributors apply perspectives from their respective areas of specialization to their examination of transcultural interactions in a diverse range of contexts. These include Equatorial Guinea, Western Sahara, Spain, Morocco, Afro-descendant communities in Latin America and transnational spaces generated by digital technologies and contemporary migration. The volume offers an expanded understanding of Afro-Hispanic Studies and serves as a model of inquiry in a field whose hallmark is the mobility of people and knowledge. Trans-afrohispanismos: puentes culturales críticos entre África, Latinoamérica y España es una aproximación innovadora a los Estudios Afrohispánicos. Destaca las conexiones entre gentes, territorios y medios de expresión en la confluencia de África y el mundo hispánico. Estos incluyen Guinea Ecuatorial, el Sáhara Occidental, España, Marruecos, comunidades de afrodescendientes en América Latina y los espacios transnacionales originados por las tecnologías digitales y la migración.     Abstract: Birgit Sondergeld studierte Publizistik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft, Spanische Philologie und Kulturwissenschaft an der Freien Universität Berlin und der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Sie ist derzeit in der Zentrale des Goethe-Instituts in München im Projekt 'Kultur und Entwicklung' tätig.
    Abstract: Mit ihrer Theorie des kulturellen Gedächtnisses haben Aleida und Jan Assmann das bis heute systematischste und begrifflich differenzierteste Konzept zu den Strukturen und Mechanismen kollektiver Erinnerungsprozesse vorgelegt. Birgit Sondergeld untersucht mit einer systematisch-qualitativen Analyse des katalanischen Gedenkstättennetzwerks "Espais de la Batalla de l`Ebre", inwieweit die teilweise am Beispiel der deutschen "Vergangenheitsbewältigung" zum Zweiten Weltkrieg entwickelte Assmann’sche Gedächtnistheorie auf den Umgang mit dem Spanischen Bürgerkrieg (1936-1939) übertragbar ist. Sie umreißt zunächst die historischen, politischen und gesellschaftlichen Hintergründe des Bürgerkriegs. In ihrer Analyse zeigt sie, dass im Kontext des innergesellschaftlichen Konflikts seit 1936 Gedächtnisstrukturen entstanden sind, die von der Assmann`schen Gedächtnistheorie noch nicht hinlänglich erfasst sind. Das Buch wendet sich an Dozierende und Studierende der Kulturwissenschaft und der Kommunikationswissenschaft.

    Abstract: This highly accessible book examines linguistic diversity in Galicia, one of the devolved regions of Spain. Its principal hypotheses are: that the Galician language is an intrinsic characteristic of Galician ethnic identity: that policy and planning impact on the behavioural practices of language users, reflected in loyalty and prestige factors: that whilst a reversal in traditional perceptions and attitudes is resulting in a reaffirmation of Galician as the autochthonous language, its sociolinguistic relationship with Castilian has not been resolved: that Galicians have to negotiate multiple identities, subject to constant change and adjustment. Through its innovative and in-depth analysis of Galician linguistic, sociolinguistic, ethnic and cultural revival and revitalisation processes, it also serves to emphasise the wider relevance of such studies to the case of minoritised languages in general.

    Abstract: Differences in attitudes to death and dying in two distinct social classes, the ecclesiastics and the nobility. The theory of the three estates made clear distinctions between the functions of the two estates which comprised the elite of medieval society: the oradores (ecclesiastics) and the defensores (warriors or nobility).They had different lifestyles, clothing and ways of thinking about life. With regard to death, the responses dictated by Christian theology conflicted with the demands of the defensor ideology, based on the defence of individual honour, the pursuit of fama and the display of earthly power. This book charts the progress of the dying from their preparations for death, through their 'good' or 'bad' deaths, to their burials and otherworldly fates and also analyses the responses of the bereaved. Through the use of pre-fifteenth-century texts it is possible to demonstrate that the conflict between the orador and defensor ideologies did not begin in the fifteenth century, but rather had a much older origin, and it is suggested that the conflict continued after 1500.     Abstract: This book offers a comprehensive account of modern Spanish culture, tracing its dramatic and often unexpected development from its beginnings after the Revolution of 1868 to the present day.
