    Kurzfassung: Im Zuge der Debatten über Islam und Einwanderung rücken auch Aleviten ins Zentrum des öffentlichen Interesses. Als »nicht-orthodoxe« Gruppe stellen sie einen Sonderfall dar und gelten häufig als besonders gut integrierte Muslime. Dies ist nicht zuletzt ein Erfolg der alevitischen Bewegung, die sich seit Ende der 1980er Jahre für die Anerkennung des Alevitentums in Deutschland eingesetzt hat. Gleichzeitig führen die Aleviten selbst eine sehr engagierte Debatte über ihre Identität: Sind Aleviten überhaupt Muslime? Wie lässt sich das Alevitentum in Deutschland leben und vermitteln? Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaftler verschiedener Disziplinen greifen in diesem Band Aspekte der Debatte über das alevitische Selbstverständnis auf und geben einen Überblick über den Diskurs in Deutschland.

    Kurzfassung: The articles included in this Yearbook of the Sociology of Islam are focused on two perspectives: Some link the comparative analysis of Islam to ongoing debates on the Axial Age and its role in the formation of major civilizational complexes, while others are more concerned with the historical constellations and sources involved in the formation of Islam as a religion and a civilization.More than any other particular line of inquiry, new historical and sociological approaches to the Axial Age revived the idea of comparative civilizational analysis and channeled it into more specific projects. A closer look at the very problematic place of Islam in this context will help to clarify questions about the Axial version of civilizational theory as well as issues in Islamic studies and sociological approaches to modern Islam.     Kurzfassung: This book takes into view a large variety of Muslim actors who, in recent years, made their entry into the European public sphere. Without excluding the phenomenon of terrorists, it maps the whole field of Muslim visibility. The nine contributions present unpublished ethnographic materials that have been collected between 2003 and 2005. They track down the available space that is open to Muslims in EU member states claiming a visibility of their own. The volume collects male and female, secular and religious, radical and pietistic voices of sometimes very young people. They all speak about »being a Muslim in Europe« and the meaning of »real Islam«
