Abstract: Ein Vierteljahrhundert nach der kulturwissenschaftlichen Wende versuchen die Autoren dieses Bandes, aus unterschiedlichen disziplinären Blickwinkeln kritisch Bilanz zu ziehen und nüchtern Perspektiven zu entwickeln. Dabei werden die wichtigsten Auseinandersetzungen, die die Kulturwissenschaft(en) seit ihrer Entstehung begleiteten, aufgegriffen und auf ihre Relevanz für die Zukunftsfähigkeit der Kulturwissenschaft(en) hin befragt. So werden einerseits Forderungen nach deutlicher Profilschärfung erhoben, andererseits aber auch ungenutzte Möglichkeiten benannt, die in der didaktischen Reflexion und im Brückenschlag zur kulturellen Praxis liegen. Eine erhöhte Bedeutung kommt dabei der Zusammenarbeit von Kulturwissenschaft(en) mit Institutionen der kulturellen Praxis zu, mit der beispielsweise die Interdependenz beider Bereiche innerhalb der fortschreitenden Digitalisierung berücksichtigt wird
