    Kurzfassung: Warum erwarten wir, dass uns Personen grüßen? Weshalb gehen wir davon aus, dass der Busfahrer den Bus auch fahren kann? Wieso bezahlen wir im Geschäft? Kulturwissenschaftlich und kulturphilosophisch treffen diese Fragen eine meist unausgesprochene normative Dimension, die kulturelle Praktiken strukturiert und Gesetze begründet, z.B. gegen Diebstahl. Die Beiträger_innen des Bandes befragen aus interdisziplinären sowie konträren Blickwinkeln diese »schwache Normativität« unter dem Begriff der »Verbindlichkeit«. Ziel ist es, Verbindlichkeit als konstitutives Moment der Beschreibung von Kultur zu beleuchten und diesen Begriff als Fundament einer Theorie der Kultur zu erschließen

Paul Mecheril (Prof. Dr.) ist Professor an der Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg und Direktor des Centers for Migration, Education and Cultural Studies (CMC).
    Kurzfassung: This volume explores the normative foundations of fair(er) relations in the immigration society. The focus is on the concept of solidarity. Beyond a »solidarity among intimates«, immigration society solidarity designates an active practice, which while not necessarily commonality-based, entails both a concrete opponent as well as a political concept of society. This idea is questioned and further developed in the contributions in terms of its theoretical, moral, educational, philosophical, and sociological dimensions.
