Abstract: How do People Learn? -- The Neurological Basis of Self-Regulation -- Brain Maturation, Intellectual Development and Descriptive Concept Construction -- Brain Maturation, Intellectual Development and Theoretical Concept Construction -- Creative Thinking, Analogy and a Neural Model of Analogical Reasoning -- The Role Analogies and Reasoning Skill in Theoretical Concept Construction and Change -- Intellectual Development During the College Years: Is There a Fifth Stage? -- What Kinds of Scientific Concepts Exist? -- Psychological and Neurological Models of Scientific Discovery -- Rejecting Nature of Science Misconceptions by Preservice Teachers -- Implications for the Nature of Knowledge and Instruction.
Abstract: A goal of mine ever since becoming an educational researcher has been to help construct a sound theory to guide instructional practice. For far too long, educational practice has suffered because we have lacked firm instructional guidelines, which in my view should be based on sound psychological theory, which in turn should be based on sound neurological theory. In other words, teachers need to know how to teach and that "how-to-teach" should be based solidly on how people learn and how their brains function. As you will see in this book, my answer to the question of how people learn is that we all learn by spontaneously generating and testing ideas. Idea generating involves analogies and testing requires comparing predicted consequences with actual consequences. We learn this way because the brain is essentially an idea generating and testing machine. But there is more to it than this. The very process ofgenerating and testing ideas results not only in the construction of ideas that work (i. e. , the learning of useful declarative knowledge), but also in improved skill in learning (i. e. , the development of improved procedural knowledge).

Abstract: This text presents an account of human development that looks at both the differences and similarities among cultures. Beyond demonstrating that "culture matters," Rogoff focuses on how culture matters in human development - what patterns help make sense of the cultural aspects of human development? Rogoff integrates research and theory from several disciplines, including cross-cultural psychology, sociocultural research, linguistic and psychological anthropology, and history. The volume examines multiple aspects of development, including childrearing, gender differences, interdependence and autonomy, developmental transitions, maternal attachment, parental discipline, and cognition and culture

Abstract: The relative deprivation construct has been widely used in the social sciences to explain phenomena from experiencing psychosomatic stress to participating in urban riots. It is currently a valuable tool in research, being used especially to understand processes of social identity and responses to disadvantage by both disadvantaged minorities and privileged majorities. Originally published in 2001, this book assembles chapters by leading relative deprivation researchers in order to present comprehensive synthesis of knowledge. Featuring integrative theoretical and empirical work from social psychology, sociology, and psychology, the book provides a highly detailed reference work. It is relevant to researchers in intergroup relations, prejudice, racism, social identity, group processes, social comparison, collective behavior, and social movements. The book will be of value to anyone with an interest in the topic and its practical application

Abstract: Shared Beliefs in a Society is a much-needed contribution to societal psychology, a new emerging subfield of social psychology, which studies societies from a social psychological perspective. Daniel Bar-Tal presents his work of the last 15 years on shared beliefs in societies under one conceptual framework from which to identify beliefs held in common by entire societies and nations.
