Abstract: The volume presents objective methods to detect and analyse various forms of repetitions. Repetition of textual elements is more than a superficial phenomenon. It may even be considered as constitutive for units and relations in a text: on a primary level when no other way exists to establish a unit, and on a secondary, artistic level, where repetition is a consequence of the transfer of the equivalence principle.

Abstract: Taking as its point of departure Raymond Williams’ notion ‘structure of feeling’, this volume investigates how affectivity makes a difference in memory studies, performance studies, and the range of cultural studies across the humanities and social sciences today. It illustrates the importance of theorizing affectivity at a moment when social and cultural life are becoming increasingly affect-driven. Abstract: The dandy is a Janus-headed figure: one half still imprisoned in the habitus and mentality of the 18th century, and the other half a maverick breaking through the class barriers imposed by the nobility. The new porousness of the world of the nobility cut off the dandy as a social type from his origins. This volume examines various manifestations and transformations of the dandy in the 19th and 20th centuries and presents biographies of some well-known dandies.

Abstract: Drawing on a wide range of empirical data, the volume presents a thorough discussion of impoliteness and power in language. It addresses the enormous imbalance that exists between academic interest in politeness phenomena when compared to impoliteness phenomena, and it offers inspiration for research on impoliteness, conflict and aggression in many different academic fields of enquiry, both within linguistics and beyond.

The themes include aspects of language economy, communication theory, shortened words in various European languages, brevity in word-formation and syntax, rhetoric and stylistics, brevity as a principle in giving personal first names. The volume contains contributions by renowned authors and gives overviews of research as well as presenting novel approaches. Abstract: Only a few hundred of the world's languages have any kind of official status, and it is only speakers of official languages (speakers of dominant majority languages) who enjoy all linguistic human rights. As many of the collected papers in this book document, most linguistic minorities are deprived of these rights. This volume describes what linguistic human rights are, who has and who does not have them and why and suggests which linguistic rights should be regarded as basic human rights. "Linguistic Human Rights" introduces an area that combines sociolinguistics, educational and minority concerns with human rights. Discrimination against language minorities is widespread, despite national and international law prohibiting this. The book analyzes language rights worldwide, including North and Latin America, several European states, the former USSR, India, Kurdistan, Australia and New Zealand.
