    Abstract: In a lucid style, Remembering the Future tracks the return of the indigenous Australian Warlpiri peoples to communities and their important collection of drawings, six decades after they were made. Discussions with many people, journeys to places, and archival research build a compelling account of the colonial and contemporary circumstances of Warlpiri lives. Crayon drawings collected by anthropologists provide an illuminating prism through which to explore how the Warlpiri people of central Australia have seen their place in the world and have been seen by others. Driven by speculative enquiry, this study is as much concerned with beguiling questions that remain unanswered and the limits of scholarship, as it is with what truths drawings might speak. Through these pictorial encounters substantial and fresh insights are generated into the crucial place of images in relationships between Warlpiri people and others.     Abstract: 'View From Inside' is an expansive presentation of contemporary Arab video, photography, and mixed media from the Middle East and North Africa.     Abstract: Increasingly, international governmental networks and organisations make it necessary to master the legal principles of other jurisdictions. Since the advent of international criminal tribunals this need has fully reached criminal law. A large part of their work is based on comparative research. The legal systems which contribute most to this systemic discussion are common law and civil law, sometimes called continental law. So far this dialogue appears to have been dominated by the former. While there are many reasons for this, one stands out very clearly: Language. English has become the lingua franca of international legal research. The present book addresses this issue. Thomas Vormbaum is one of the foremost German legal historians and the book's original has become a cornerstone of research into the history of German criminal law beyond doctrinal expositions; it allows a look at the system’s genesis, its ideological, political and cultural roots.     Abstract: The book was first published in 1997, and was awarded the first prize of scientific research by the Ministry of Justice during the ninth Five-Year Plan of China. In 2005, it was adopted the text book for the postgraduates of law majors. In 2009, it was awarded the second prize of the best books on law in China. The book discusses from different aspects the long legal tradition in China, and it not only helps us to have a further understanding of Chinese legal system but also combines theories and practice and illustrate the modern legal transition which probes the history of Chinese legal system. As is known to us all, China is a country with a long legal history, which can be traced back to more than three thousand year ago. So the legal tradition of China has been passed down from generation to generation without any interruptions. This feature is peculiar to Chinese legal history which is beyond all comparison with that of other countries such as ancient Egypt, ancient India, ancient Babylon and ancient Persia. Through the study of Chinese legal history we can have a deeper understanding of the histories, features, origins and the transition of Chinese legal tradition. The Chinese legal tradition originated from China, and it is the embodiment of the wisdom and creativity of Chinese civilization. The great many books, researching materials, legal constitutions, archives, files and records of different dynasties in China have provided us with rare, complete and systematic materials to research. The book has a complete, systematic and detailed research on Chinese legal tradition and its transition and it gives people a correct recognition of the process of the perfection of laws during its development and its position as well as its value in the social progress in order to grasp its regular patterns. It also has showed us the most valuable part and core of Chinese legal Tradition and it is a summary of Chinese legal tradition and its transition from different perspectives, different angles and different levels.     Abstract: In the age of economic globalisation, do art and heritage matter? Once the domain of elitist practitioners and scholars, the governance of cultural heritage and the destiny of iconic artefacts have emerged as the new frontier of international law, making headlines and attracting the varied interests of academics and policy-makers, museum curators and collectors, human rights activists and investment lawyers, and artists and economists, just to mention a few. The return of cultural artefacts to their legitimate owners, the recovery of underwater cultural heritage, and the protection and promotion of artistic expressions are just some of the pressing issues addressed by this book. Contemporary intersections between art, cultural heritage and the market are complicated by a variety of ethical and legal issues, which often describe complex global relations. Should works of art be treated differently from other goods? What happens if a work of art, currently exhibited in a museum, turns out to have originally been looted? What is the relevant legal framework? What should be done with ancient shipwrecks filled with objects from former colonies? Should such objects be kept by the finders? Should they be returned to the country of origin? This book addresses these different questions while highlighting the complex interplay between legal and ethical issues in the context of cultural governance. The approach is mainly legal, but interdisciplinary aspects are considered as well

    Abstract: From Balinese woodcarvings to Batavian silverware, from Indonesian krisses to Chinese porcelain, and from betel boxes to Indo-European paintings: the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag is set to unveil a vast range of objects that bring the enthralling world of the Orient vividly to life. Its new 'Asian Art and Dutch Taste' exhibition uses the private collection of Jan Veenendaal plus some additional items from the Gemeentemuseum's own holdings to illustrate the interaction between East and West over the last four hundred years. The show reveals how the marriage of styles and cultures produced a multitude of unique and extraordinary objects. From the seventeenth century on, a host of Dutch citizens lived in the Far East on a permanent or temporary basis. They all had one thing in common: they went there first and foremost in search of wealth and opportunities that were beyond their grasp in Europe. Countless Dutchmen and foreigners sought their fortunes in Asia in the service of the Dutch East India Company (established in 1602). Their main motivation was trade with and within Asia, but the encounter with previously unknown cultures had an impact not only on Dutch society, but equally on Asian communities. The effects of this culture shock on the material culture of both East and West should never be underestimated. This exhibition shows why

Mit ihren eigenen ästhetischen Qualitäten, religiösen Bedeutungen und intellektuellen Reflexivitäten verweisen diese Objekte und Kunstwerke auf existierende immaterielle Kräfte, Geister der Ahnen und jenseitige Mächte im alltäglichen Leben. Haunted Thresholds ist ein Resultat der Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Kunstverein Göttingen und dem Forschungsnetzwerk Dynamiken von Religion in Südostasienʺ (DORISEA). Haunted Thresholds explores the unique relationship between spirituality and modernity in Southeast Asia. As an exhibition and a research process, the project brings works by 15 artists from the region into an experimental dialogue with ethnographic objects from the Ethnographic Collection at the University of Göttingen. With their own aesthetic qualities, religious meanings and intellectual reflexivity, both the objects and artworks reveal immaterial forces, ancestral spirits and otherworldy powers existent in the everyday. Haunted Thresholds is a cooperation between Kunstverein Göttingen and the research network Dynamics of Religion in Southeast Asiaʺ (DORISEA).
