Abstract:
Die drastische Zunahme der plastischen Chirurgie macht Technologien, die unter die Haut gehen, als soziales, kulturelles und politisches Phänomen besonders virulent. Sie werden als »Selbsttechnologien« gefasst, mittels derer Menschen sich selbst zu formen versuchen. Dieser Band geht den Fragen nach, welchen Normen die Menschen dabei folgen, welche Erfahrungen sie dabei machen, wie dies in Medien und Literatur thematisiert wird und wie sich angemessen darüber nachdenken lässt. Technologisch induzierte Arbeiten am eigenen Körper werden dabei als ambivalentes Phänomen zwischen Selbst-Ermächtigung und Selbst-Unterwerfung skizziert.
