    Abstract: In recounting their migration journey, references to nationality pervade the narratives of Zimbabweans in South Africa. Given the challenges many migrants confront based on their nationality, this presents a seeming paradox. This qualitative interview study, conducted with Zimbabwean migrants in two areas of Cape Town—Observatory and Dunoon—aims to elucidate the nuances of national self-descriptions in a demanding environment. Identifying as Zimbabwean serves as a sanctuary and a retreat, where alternative identifications often prove transient; embracing Zimbabweanness fosters an affirmative and positive self-perception, surpassing the limitations of other collective self-descriptions. Rather than pre-emptively characterizing a nationalist demeanour, the articulation of national self-description emerges as a strategic tool to navigate experiences of hostility and discrimination, while also asserting legitimate claims to equal opportunities. In this way, nationality takes a trajectory that diverges from conventional notions of nationality (and the ones of the nation-state or citizenship) as per Northern theory, contributing to alternative conceptualizations within the framework of the Global South. About the author Johannes Kögel studied philosophy and sociology in Munich and Cape Town. He currently works as a research associate at the University of Munich (LMU München). He has conducted social research on diverse topics such as brain-computer interfaces, xenotransplantation, and migration in South Africa. .

Through in-depth qualitative and photo-elicitation interviews, Cesraa Rumpf shows how formerly incarcerated women engaged recovery and faith-based discourses to craft rehabilitated identities, defined in opposition to past identities as "criminal-addicts." While these discourses made it possible for women to carve out spaces of personal protection, growth, and joy, they also promoted individualistic understandings of criminalization and the violence and dehumanization that followed. Honoring criminalized women's stories of personal transformation, Rumpf nevertheless strongly critiques institutions' promotion of narratives that impose lifelong moral judgment while detracting attention from the structural forces of racism, sexism, and poverty that contribute to women's vulnerability to violence.〈BR /〉

    Abstract: This book explores the role of social space in American temperance discourse of the antebellum era. It specifically charts how, through engagements with space, temperance advocates located and expressed the existence of an ‘alcoholic order.’ Variously referred to as ‘King Alcohol’ or the ‘Rum System,’ this alcoholic order was portrayed as ubiquitous and threatening. Recording the machinations and ubiquity of this order would help temperance claims surrounding the threat of alcohol appear meaningful and true. Discursively engaging with social spaces, advocates could convey a world that was dominated and ordered by alcohol’s production and consumption. Each empirical chapter of this book explores a discrete space – the latter ranging in downward scale – and shows how, through these spaces, advocates went about identifying the lineages and historical linkages of alcoholic damage. First, advocates portrayed the American public sphere as being borne on and tainted by alcoholic connections; through such engagements with the public, the American present was condemned as a centrally alcoholic arrangement. Second, advocates frequently portrayed the Atlantic world as an alcoholic space, thus infusing temperance with critiques of global capitalism and slavery. Third, a focus on the United States as a country and its booze-soaked history helped advocates’ espousals of a temperance-led future for the country. Finally, the drunkard’s body served to support key temperance claims – especially surrounding health and hygiene – while also suffusing activism with critiques of a reigning false consciousness. Throughout the book, temperance advocates’ efforts of archiving the damages of drink – that is, of recording alcohol’s history and harm – are traced. In so doing, advocates could expound the existence of an alcoholic order, adversely impacting the world. By focussing on a discrete space, each chapter reveals novel angles of temperance; far from being merely an assault on drink, we come to appreciate temperance as a wide-ranging imaginary. Each space is connected to the other, in the writings of temperance advocates, through the reigning alcoholic order. Yet each space also brings up its own set of societal issues. In writing about the public, temperance comes to be a negotiation of issues surrounding individuality, gender, work, and capitalism. The Atlantic, on the other hand, carries forth such issues of capitalism and the market and has temperance advocates interrogate questions surrounding freedom, slavery, agency, and race. Similar questions surrounding freedom find echoes in advocates’ writings surrounding the country: temperance here comes to revolve around ideology, nationalism, and individualism. Lastly, writings surrounding the body brings forth issues of surrounding the individual and individualism, by focussing especially on workers’ alienation, on masculinity, and race.

    Abstract: Bonaventure's metaphysical thought and his interpretation of Aristotle Contemporary scholarship on Bonaventure has characterized him as the Neo-platonic foil to the Aristotelianism of his day.     Abstract: This book offers a comprehensive analysis of the legal questions that arise for the legislative branch when implementing the crime of aggression into domestic law. Despite being the “supreme international crime” that gave birth to international criminal law in Nuremberg, its ICC Statute definition has been incorporated into domestic law by fewer than 20 States. The crime of aggression was also omitted in the rich debate held among German scholars in the early 2000s regarding the legislative implementation of other ICC Statute crimes. The current inability of the International Criminal Court to respond to the Russian aggression towards Ukraine invites the continuation of these academic debates without neglecting the particularities of the crime of aggression. The fundamental issues discussed in this volume include the obligation to criminalize aggression, the core wrong of the crime, the normative gaps under domestic law and the jurisdictional gaps under the ICC Statute. To facilitate the operationalization of domestic implementation, the book explores the technical options for incorporating the definition into domestic law, the geographical ambit of domestic jurisdiction—most notably universal jurisdiction—as well as legal challenges such as immunities. The book is aimed primarily at researchers and States with an interest in the domestic implementation of international criminal law but those already working in the field should also find much of interest contained within it. Dr. Annegret Hartig is Program Director of the Global Institute for the Prevention of Aggression and worked as a researcher at the University of Hamburg where she obtained her doctoral degree in international criminal law.

    Abstract: This book offers a socio-spatial analysis of a refugee camp in southwestern Uganda. Based on qualitative research with a multi-method approach the author shows how refugees are central actors in the operation and becoming of a camp. Not only do they crucially contribute to its social, micro-economic, and material realization but they also incrementally rearrange the camp space by acts of constant adaptation in order to make it work for its inhabitants. By means of social interaction, infrastructuring, translation, movement and material improvisation they navigate daily life in the semi-constricted and highly precarious space of the refugee protection regime and carve out its social and material landscape. Thus, this study challenges static understandings of camps and restricted conditions and puts forward theoretical implications for the rethinking and reassessment of agency in such contexts by calling for closer attention to ordinary practices. About the author Hannah Schmidt is a member of the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at the University Osnabrück. Her research is on encampment and refugee regimes in the Global South, as well as social practices, agency and spatial production in the context of humanitarianism.

    Abstract: This book critically analyzes the criminalization of incitement to terrorism under the fundamental principles of legality, necessity, and proportionality with the aim of striking a fair balance between security and liberty on this complicated issue. The criminalization of incitement to terrorism has gained momentum, but no exact or generally accepted definition of this offense exists at the international level. What’s more, given that the criminalization of incitement to terrorism results in restrictions on the exercise of citizens’ freedom of expression, there should be certain limitations on those criminal measures to avoid unnecessary or disproportionate infringement of this fundamental human right. Nevertheless, there has not been a precise standard by which to determine how to draw the line between anti-terrorism and the protection of freedom of expression. Hence, it could be concluded that the criminalization of incitement to terrorism concerns how to balance security and liberty, and the safeguarding principles of legality, necessity, and proportionality should be fully observed in considering this issue. This book studies definitions of “incitement”, “terrorism”, and “incitement to terrorism” under the relevant international and national legislation, and points out the existing absence, ambiguousness, or substantive divergence in defining actus reus and mens rea regarding incitement to terrorism. It carefully considers the current need for and essential limitations on criminal measures against incitement to terrorism in accordance with the principles of necessity and proportionality, and particularly focuses on how to balance the protection of freedom of expression with the criminalization of incitement to terrorism. In considering how to draw a line between the two, the book formulates precise requirements for objective and subjective elements of this offense in accordance with the principle of legality. Given its scope, it will be of interest not only to academics, human rights lawyers and practitioners, but also to policymakers, as it offers an extensive evaluation of the effects and counter-effects of existing criminal measures.

    Abstract: This Open-Access-book questions the relationship between institutionalized images and understandings of policing – the monolithic ideas common to most, if not all, Western law enforcement agencies – and contextual, situative, and local interactions where the human representatives of policing – street-level officers – come into contact with residents. The political and theoretical association of specific forms of “Western” policing with democratic society can be illustrated in the case of German integration: narratives of reform and essentially forging new democratic police agencies in the “new German states” stand at odds with much of the experience and statements of officers who continued to serve following (Re)Unification. Officers who present their works primarily in terms of their local responsibilities, expectations and more specifically to their unique and individual relationship and connection to their communities downplay the relevance of high-level policing policy. Based on a two-year ethnographic study of policing in a rural county in the German state of Brandenburg, this book explores the local nature of policing both in terms of how police officers imagine their communities to be and with reference to broader societal expectations and assumptions of what police, essentially, are, can effectively do, and should effectively do. About the author Aaron Bielejewski is a research associate at the Centre for Criminological Research Saxony. He studies cultural and interactionist aspects of police work and prison.

    Abstract: In this book, the author attempts to debunk some myths about Western exceptionalism and to evaluate critically the characteristics that make the West superior to the Rest. The author suggests that the West does not represent a homogenous group of countries and that the most common characteristic of the core Western countries is imperialism. The author goes on to provide a detailed critique of the proclaimed characteristics of Western countries, including democracy, human rights, judicial independence, transparency, the rule of law, and exclusive contribution to science and technology. A critique is presented of the views expressed by Samuel Huntington, Francis Fukuyama, and Niall Ferguson, arguing that they do not recognize the historical fact that civilizations rise and fall.     Abstract: This study aims for a wider understanding of the redevelopment processes that emerged several decades ago in downtown San Diego and now gradually spread over the downtown edges into the inner ring. Perspectively situated in the fields of urban landscape and urban border studies, the research project outlines how the eastward ‘redevelopment wave’ in San Diego contests socialized neighborhood (boundary) perceptions by transforming the former first-tier suburbs from disinvested communities into ‘urban villages’ and trendy places to be. The study shows how the redevelopment perforates, dissolves, and shifts socialized, linear neighborhood boundaries into areas that are simultaneously part of the one and the other neighborhood. In the present work, the resulting, rather undefined or stretched border areas have been referred to as hybrid urban borderlands. This notion is a novel conceptual approach that can be deemed a promising lens for future studies on neighborhood change, urban redevelopment, and socio-spatial re-interpretation beyond the context of San Diego. About the author Albert Rossmeier studied Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Applied-Sciences in Weihenstephan and Human Geography/Global Studies at the University of Tübingen, where he completed his dissertation in Geography. His research interests include energy transition and wind power expansion, landscape change and theories, urban borderlands as well as urban and regional development in Europe and North America.

    Abstract: This book offers a deeper understanding of digitisation and innovative technologies in the financial sector. It focuses on a digital version of sovereignly created money that is accessible to the broad public. This central bank digital currency (CBDC) raises several questions. Will CBDC lead to public surveillance of the citizens? What is digital money in the legal sense? And what is the difference to already existing forms of digital money? This book addresses main questions associated with central bank digital currency by providing background information as well as in-depth analyses. The book introduces a basic understanding of innovative technologies such as the distributed ledger technology. It shows how a system of money can be created and what roles each participant has.     Abstract: This book explores the impact of 'Fintech' on the information asymmetry between the financial regulator and the markets.     Abstract: The Global IR research programme promulgates a borderless ecology of cultures that has only an inside without an outside. This borderless ecology of cultures reinvents the human condition (including the condition of ‘the international’) as perpetually interconnected at the level of consciousness. While Western-centric IR theories depend on (neo-)Kantian philosophies to emphasize the time-space bounded identities of human beings living in visibly divided phenomenal worlds, the de-Kantian philosophies of the Global IR research programme – exemplified by the Tianxia, Advaita, and Nishida Kitaro’s Buddhism-inspired theories – recuperate the temporally-spatially indivisible phenomenal-noumenal flow of human life, thereby facilitating back-and-forth movement between the Westdominated ‘one world’ and the non-West-embodied ‘many worlds’. The central objective of the book is to demonstrate how this back-and-forth movement offers opportunities to conceive of and found a new world order that recognizes the temporally-spatially indivisible human condition on earth. In their attempt to classify incidents in the border context that are unclear to them, actors’ explanations are partly based on the concept of transnational human trafficking. Thereby, they transfer the impenetrability discursively associated with this concept to what they see as obscure cross-border migration, disconcerting sexual services, and other alienating economic activities. Alternatively, actors understand undocumented cross-border migration, commercial sexual services, and other illegalised income-generating activities as common everyday practices at the border and also assume that human trafficking does not play an important role there.     Abstract: This book describes the findings from a study that aimed to contribute to current knowledge about intimate partner violence (IPV) desistance processes. More specifically, the study examined: The role of female victims/survivors of IPV in male abuser desistance pathways Factors associated with desistance and persistence patterns of IPV The applicability of current desistance theories for explaining the cessation or reduction of IPV Featuring a number of case studies, this book not only identifies key learnings for the design and delivery of IPV prevention initiatives, but points to areas where desistance frameworks may be enhanced or adapted to improve their relevance to IPV, as well as other offending behaviors. One of the first of its kind in Australia and internationally, this volume targets domestic, family and sexual violence researchers, criminal careers/desistance researchers and domestic and family violence practitioners and policy-makers. .

    Abstract: This book explores the early evangelical quest for enlightenment by the Spirit and the Word. While the pursuit originated in the Protestant Reformation, it assumed new forms in the long eighteenth-century context of the early Enlightenment and transatlantic awakened Protestant reform. This work illuminates these transformations by focusing on the dynamic intersection of experimental philosophy and experimental religion in the biblical practices of early America’s most influential Protestant theologians, Cotton Mather (1663-1728) and Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758). As the first book-length project to treat Mather and Edwards together, this study makes an important contribution to the extensive scholarship on these figures, opening new perspectives on the continuities and complexities of colonial New England religion. It also provides new insights and interpretive interventions concerning the history of the Bible, early modern intellectual history, and evangelicalism’s complex relationship to the Enlightenment. Ryan P. Hoselton is Associate Pastor at Munich International Community Church and Visiting Scholar at Heidelberg University in Germany, where he taught religious history and historical theology from 2016-2023. He co-edited The Bible in Early Transatlantic Pietism and Evangelicalism (2022), and he is editing vol. 7 of the Biblia Americana (Matthew-Luke).

    Abstract: This book examines how the military orders and the ideology of crusading gave rise to a new sacred landscape in the medieval Baltic region, an outpost of Latin Christianity. Drawing on a wide variety of sources and international scholarship, the book discusses the paganism of the landscape in written sources pre-dating the crusades, in addition to the narrative, legal, and visual evidence of the crusade period. 0It draws out the key sacralizing elements as expressed in those sources, which structure the definition of sacred landscape, particularly martyrdom, the manifestation of the sacred, and use of relics in battle. By analyzing these aspects with Geographical Information Systems (GIS), a map of the Baltic campaigns emerges that provides a fresh approach to studying contemporary views of holy war in a region with no initial links to the loca sancta of Jerusalem or Europe

    Abstract: Die Forschung für diese Doktorarbeit wurde im Rahmen des ERC-Projekts „Realising Eurasia: Civilisation and Moral Economy in the 21st Century“ durchgeführt. Die vorliegende Dissertation legt besonderes Augenmerk auf die Perspektiven von kleinen (Familien-)Unternehmen und untersucht die materiellen und nicht-materiellen Prozesse, die das Entstehen und die Reproduktion dieser Unternehmen im postsozialistischen Ungarn kennzeichnen. Der empirische Fokus auf der Arbeit und den wirtschaftlichen Praktiken in kleinen Unternehmen eröffnet neue Einsichten in die Verbindung zwischen der Formierung von Werten und politisch-ökonomischen Prozessen. Die Dissertation verfolgt einen holistischen Ansatz, in dem verschiedene Theorien aus zwei Bereichen – politische Ökonomie und Sozialtheorien der Moral und Werte – als analytische Basis für die empirische Forschung über Alltagserfahrungen mit Arbeit und wirtschaftlichem Handeln zusammengebracht werden.
    Abstract: This PhD research was conducted as part of the project entitled ‘Realising Eurasia: Civilisation and Moral Economy in the 21st century’, which aimed to understand how morality and economy are entangled with each other from a new perspective.This dissertation focused on the perspectives of small (family) businesses in Szeged and examined both the material and non-material processes in which these businesses emerged and reproduced themselves in post-Socialist Hungary. The focus on work and economic practices in small businesses provided a unique angle on the study of the links between value formation and politico-economic processes both socially and empirically. In doing so, this PhD work utilized a holistic approach by bringing together various theories from two major domains: political economy, and social theories of morality and values that constituted the theoretical context for the dissertation’s empirical research into everyday experiences of work and economic activities.

    Abstract: Die Dissertation ist eine Ethnographie des Staates im Flüchtlingslager Kakuma und in der Integrierten Siedlung Kalobeyei, Kenia. Basierend auf einer 12-monatigen Feldforschung in 2018-2019 wird die Vielfalt und Mobilität von Staaten im Lager analysiert. 2016 übernahm die kenianische Behörde RAS die Verantwortung für den Flüchtlingsschutz und die Kontrolle des Lagers vom UNHCR. In der bisherigen Forschung wurde die Anwesenheit des Staates oft übersehen; stattdessen wurden die Rolle des UNHCRS und des Agamben’schen „Ausnahmezustand“ im Flüchtlingslager hervorgehoben. Diese Studie zeigt, dass Flüchtlingslager höchst politische Räume sind, in denen eine Vielzahl mobiler nationaler und ausländischer staatlicher Akteure, Organisationen und Institutionen agiert. Das Konzept der „encamped states“ („eingelagerten Staaten“) wird entwickelt, um die multiplen und mobilen Staaten im Kontext von Kakuma und Kalobeyei darzustellen.
    Abstract: This thesis is an ethnographic account of the state within Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement, Kenya. Drawing from twelve months of in-depth ethnographic fieldwork between 2018 and 2019, the thesis explores the multiplicity and mobility of states within the camp. In 2016, the Kenyan state agency RAS assumed key camp managerial and refugee protection positions from the UNHCR. Previous research focusing on refugee camps has largely ignored the presence of the state, tending to overemphasise the governing role of the UNHCR and camps as Agambenian ‘state of exception’. This thesis addresses this imbalance and shifts our attention to how camps are highly political spaces, hosting an array of mobile national and foreign state actors, organisations, and institutions. The thesis utilises the concept of ‘encamped states’ to argue that, within the temporary encamped setting of Kakuma and Kalobeyei, states are both multiple and mobile.

Schultz's book analyses the supposedly "failed" migration of Malian men, the social situations in which they find themselves following deportation, and the implications of their "failure" for their social environment and broader society. Culture, including heritage, is often presented as fundamental to addressing the SDGs: since 2010, the United Nations has adopted no fewer than five major policy recommendations that assert its importance as a driver and enabler of development. Yet, heritage is marginalized from the Sustainable Development Goals.0Rethinking Heritage for Sustainable Development constitutes a substantial and original assessment of whether and how heritage has contributed to three key dimensions of sustainable development (namely poverty reduction, gender equality and environmental sustainability) within the context of its marginalisation from the Sustainable Development Goals and from previous international development agendas.0Sophia Labadi adopts a novel, inclusive, large-scale and systematic approach, providing the first comprehensive history of the international approaches on culture (including heritage) for development, from 1970 to the present day. This book is also the first to assess the negative and positive impacts of all the international projects implemented in sub-Saharan Africa by a consortium of UN organisations that aimed to provide evidence for the contribution of heritage for development in time for the negotiation of the SDGs.     Abstract: This book ties restorative justice into the exercise of patriarchal power. It is focused on the individual narratives of 15 girls and young women who have participated in a victim-offender restorative justice (RJ) conference and the perspectives of youth justice practitioners. Gender, Power and Restorative Justice expands feminist engagement with RJ by focusing critical attention on the importance of the social construction of gender, the exercise of power, shame, stigma, muting and resistance to girls’ experiences of RJ conferencing. Drawing upon recent developments to the sociology of stigma and feminist perspectives on shame, the book contends that RJ conferencing can produce harmful implications for girls and young women who participate. Ultimately it is argued that anti-carceral, social policy alternatives, underpinned by feminist praxis, should replace a youth justice jurisprudence for girls. This book will be of particular use and interest to those studying modules on criminology, youth justice, criminal justice and social work courses. Jodie Hodgson is a lecturer in Criminology at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. Jodie has previously worked as a lecturer at Leeds Beckett University and the University of Liverpool. She completed her PhD at Liverpool John Moores University. Her research interests are situated within the areas of youth justice, feminism and critical criminology.

    Abstract: “Can I choose to die?” As the number of requests for euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide continues to rise, human rights law faces a new conflict: the right to die vs. the right to life… The right to die or, in other words, ‘the right to choose the time and manner of one’s own death’ is a question of personal autonomy and its limits. This book provides a comprehensive understanding of the right to die and sheds light on its possible future under the European Convention on Human Rights. After setting a clear framework by defining the key terminology, the book takes a two-part approach to achieving its aim. The first part focuses on the right to die in practice by examining selected jurisdictions. Switzerland, which is famous for its assisted suicide organizations, and the Netherlands, which was the first country to legalize euthanasia, are examined in detail. Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, and -as an exception to the Convention perspective - Canada are also included. While this examination offers a better understanding of what the right to die looks like in practice, it also provides insights on the slippery slope argument, which serves as a counterweight to personal autonomy, without making a definitive statement on its validity. This part also illustrates the different paths that led or did not lead to the right to die in practice. The second part is an analysis of the European Court of Human Rights case law on the right to die. The Court has made important statements in only very cases, while its caution when approaching such a delicate and controversial topic among its 47 members is understandably emphasized. This analysis of the Court’s approach to the balancing of personal autonomy against other interests allows us to take a look back at the practice in more permissive jurisdictions through the lens of the Convention. Taken together, the book’s two parts provide valuable lessons for countries that decide to practice assisted dying, which are outlined in the conclusion. In addition, given that a purely legal approach can only offer a partial picture, the book argues that an interdisciplinary approach would be much more favorable in terms of providing the necessary basis for the right to die debate.

    Abstract: This book focuses on the criminalization trend and process regarding the internal migration in contemporary China from the perspective Law-in-Action. In Chinese society today, internal migrants are commonly perceived as criminals. Crimmigration, a global term that communicated the convergence of the criminal legal system and the immigration enforcement system, manifest itself in China’s hukou-based (also known as the household registration system) criminal legal system. How hukou has been constructed into the concept of Crimmigration in China strikes at the core of the ultimate questions of this book: who is being criminalized, how does the political-economic-cultural institution known as ‘hukou’ shape the criminal justice process, and how has the role of hukou changed over time in the ever-changing process? Drawing on interviews with migrant leaders, police, prosecutors, criminal lawyers & judges, and prison staff in Yangtze River Delta, China, this book reflects on a historical development on hukou and its function in social control. Each chapter contributes to an extended analysis of pragmatic aspects of decision-making moments in the criminal justice system.     Abstract: This book describes the nature of trafficking in persons in West Africa, focusing on labor and sexual exploitation in the region, and recommends tailor-made solutions established by the Catholic Church in light of governmental authorities’ failure to effectively combat this scourge of humanity. While states’ efforts to fulfill their international obligations in developing anti-trafficking legislations are recognized, their failure to carry out prosecutions of offenders and ensure protection of the victims reveals that law alone is not a sufficient instrument for realizing human rights and improving people’s lives. Faced with the sobering background of less than successful efforts by governmental entities to end the trade in humans, this research study recommends adopting essential elements of Catholic social teaching, which rests on the inherent dignity of human beings allowing the development of political, socio-cultural, and religious reforms that will increase the effectiveness of existing legislation designed to combat trafficking. This faith-based approach highlights the role that religion may play in fulfilling the discretionary provisions of the Palermo Protocol by promoting the welfare and protecting the life and dignity of the victims. Additionally, religion is composed of sound moral ethics that determine people's behavior to refrain from the sinful conduct of trafficking. It also creates a sense of ethical responsibility that promotes supply chain transparency and ethical purchasing as well as advocating social reforms and anti-trafficking legislations initiatives. In fact, the author's approach, may be a model for other regions in the world and will be of interest to scholars, law and policy makers, human rights advocates and law enforcement agents working in the field of trafficking in persons. .

    Abstract: The phenomenon of excess volatility in the context of share prices and of the term structure of interest rates has been documented by the existing literature, highlighting the limitations of traditional models of rational expectations and of reliance on the efficient market hypothesis. The data violates the bounds on volatility that are derived from them. Amia Santini studies the possible shortcomings of the methodologies used to uncover those inconsistencies, and the potential explanations of the observed phenomenon that can be considered in line with the rational expectation framework. She focuses on a relatively newer field of study: derivative instruments. Previous results of excess volatility, recovered with a worldwide focus, are presented and an empirical analysis is performed to assess whether a similar outcome would be obtained in the Eurozone market. The exploration of financial information that falls underneath the risk-neutral measure, such as derivative prices, reduces the importance of time-varying discount rates as a potential explanation of excess volatility. In fact, the martingale measure already incorporates all potential variation in risk premia, which is the main driver of changes in discount rates. This opens the door to different and innovative prospects, and specific attention is paid to a new model for investor behaviour, that of natural expectations.     Abstract: For over 20 years, school interventions involving former right-wing extremists have been popular in Germany. In practice, they are advertised and conducted as both civic education and extremism prevention. This book uses an evidence-based and interdisciplinary approach to examine the potentials and challenges of this format. It provides a thematic embedding of German application, a comprehensive review of attributed impact assumptions and the state of related research. These policies are predicated on police forces warning the partners of abusers about domestic violence perpetrated in the past of those abusive partners. This book explores why the evidence that these Schemes actually prevent serious harm is overall patchy, and currently unconvincing. This book makes an argument for the evaluation and reappraisal of a piece of public protection policy which might currently be serving as sticking plaster on the shortcomings of wider public policy aimed at preventing violence against women. This book draws on the emerging body of research on Domestic Abuse Disclosure Schemes, and contributes original insights and analysis of its own. Jamie Grace is Senior Lecturer in Law and Fellow of the Sheffield Institute for Policy Studies at Sheffield Hallam University, UK, based in the Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice.     Abstract: This timely book comprehensively examines whether the worst human rights violations directed specifically at sexual and gender minorities are punishable under international criminal law, as codified in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. Drawing on general rules of interpretation, the development of human rights for sexual and gender minorities, and the social construction of gender, this monograph reveals that the worst crimes committed against persons because of their sexual orientation or gender identity can amount to crimes against humanity, particularly the crime of persecution under Article 7(1)(h). It also shows how legislators can be held individually criminally responsible for passing laws that criminalize consensual same-sex sexuality. The book not only makes a significant and original contribution to the literature but is also highly relevant for international criminal law practitioners, since, so far, no cases regarding this topic exist. Dr. Valérie V. Suhr is currently a trainee lawyer in the district of the Koblenz Court of Appeal in Germany.
