    Abstract: Die eigene Zeit als Kolonialmacht sei im Vergleich mit Ländern wie Frankreich oder Großbritannien kurz und relativ unproblematisch gewesen: So sah man es hierzulande lange. Doch das war ein Irrtum. Heute steht die deutsche koloniale Vergangenheit zu Recht im Zentrum kontrovers geführter Debatten über das koloniale Erbe in einer globalen Welt. Dieses Buch beleuchtet mit dem Auswärtigen Amt einen zentralen Akteur des deutschen Kolonialismus und spannt den Bogen vom Deutschen Kaiserreich bis weit ins 20. Jahrhundert hinein. Dabei richtet sich der Blick nicht nur auf Deutschland, sondern auch in die betroffenen Gesellschaften Afrikas, Asiens und Ozeaniens. Mit dem Versailler Vertrag von 1919 endete die formale deutsche Kolonialherrschaft. Doch koloniales Denken lebte in der Mitte der deutschen Ge sellschaft fort - so auch im Auswärtigen Amt, dem eine Mitverantwortung für Gewalt und Verbrechen in den deutschen Kolonien zukommt. Die Folgen seines Handelns sind noch bis in unsere Gegenwart spürbar. In der Zeit der NS-Diktatur verbanden sich nationalkonservative, monarchistische und antirepublikanische Haltungen im Auswärtigen Amt mit den expansionistischen und rassistischen Zielen des Nationalsozialismus. Ab 1949 prägten Indifferenz und Ignoranz, Passivität und Relativierung die bundesdeutsche Politik gegenüber den ehemaligen Kolonien im globalen Süden. Heute ist das Amt maßgeblich an Verhandlungen über Restitution und Wiedergutmachung beteiligt. Zudem wird es von einer diverser gewordenen deutschen Gesellschaft mit Fragen zur kolonialen Vergangenheit konfrontiert. Aus Gründen der historischen Gerechtigkeit, aber auch angesichts einer veränderten Weltlage muss sich das Amt seiner eigenen Kolonialgeschichte stellen

    Abstract: The study provides an extensive legal, geopolitical and historical analysis of all controversial issues making up the Greek-Turkish maritime dispute: the delimitation of territorial waters, the national airspace, the delineation of exclusive economic zones and continental shelf as well as the issue of military presence on the Eastern Aegean islands and its relation to the Greek sovereignty over them. By immersing thoroughly into international jurisprudence, international treaties and historical facts, the book offers a detailed survey of legal precedents and legal regimes over similar issues worldwide. In this way, the reader has the opportunity to ascertain where every single legal and historical argument has been drawn from and its relevance in the international jurisprudence. Consequently, it follows the evolution of the dispute together with all its twists from 1973 to 2022 that saw a new low in the historically tense Greek-Turkish relationship. The book finally re-examines the dispute in the light of the new green energy geopolitics and the ongoing climate crisis and comes up with some suggestions for an alternative paradigm of co-existence in the Aegean Sea which in the author’s view is urgent and inevitable. .

    Abstract: "Campaigns against prostitution of young people in the United States have surged and ebbed multiple times over the last fifty years. Fighting the U.S. Youth Sex Trade: Race, Gender, and Politics examines how politically and ideologically diverse activists joined together to change perceptions and public policies on youth involvement in the sex trade over time, reframing "juvenile prostitution" of the 1970s as "commercial sexual exploitation of children" in the 1990s, and then as "domestic minor sex trafficking" in the 2000s. Based on organizational archives and interviews with activists, Baker shows that these campaigns were fundamentally shaped by the politics of gender, race and class, and global anti-trafficking campaigns. The author argues that the very frames that have made these movements so successful in achieving new laws and programs for youth have limited their ability to achieve systematic reforms that could decrease youth vulnerability to involvement in the sex trade"--

Das gilt auch für die angebliche Unvereinbarkeit von Demokratie und Islam oder die vorgebliche Neigung des Islam zur Gewalt. Rudolf Steinberg unterzieht diese Annahmen einer kritischen Betrachtung und fragt nach der institutionellen Verortung eines deutschen Islam. Er führt in einer tour d'horizon sachlich und differenziert durch die aktuellen juristischen und politischen Diskussionen. Denn "die" Scharia gibt es ebenso wenig wie "den" Islam.

    Abstract: This book explains, compares and evaluates the social and legal functions of adoption within a range of selected jurisdictions and on an international basis. It updates and extends the second edition published by Springer in 2009. From a standpoint of the development of adoption in England & Wales, and the changes currently taking place there, it considers the process as it has evolved in other countries. It identifies themes of commonality and difference in the experience of adoption in a common law context as compared and contrasted with that of other countries. It looks at adoption in France, Sweden and other civil law countries, as well as Japan and elsewhere in Asia, including a focus on Islamic adoption. It examines the experience of indigenous people in New Zealand and Australia, contrasting the highly regulated legal process of modern western society with the traditional practice of indigenous communities such as the Maori. A new chapter studies adoption in China. The book uses the international Conventions and associated ECtHR case law to benchmark developments in national law, policy and practice and to facilitate a cross-cultural comparative analysis
