Abstract: Do you imagine Stone Age hunters as half-naked, repulsive savages who dragged heavy cudgels, howling and grunting strange sounds instead of speech, as they are presented in vorious films and books? Do you thik they were more animal than humanm uzninterested in antything other than fight and food? Do you imagine mindless primitives decouring each other, who had nothin in common with us?The Palaeolithic hinters vertainly did not suffer blows of fate - i.e. fluctuations of the climat, changes in the comosittion and quantigty of animals of plants , demographi, ecological or social pressure - phlegmaticaly,. Archaeological finds bear evidence that they were tahter more than lass successfil all the time, and were very successful from time to time. They thrived as tey adapted their subsisten ce strategies to sich chnges on one hand, and on the other they mastered varous technologies that facilitatted their survival. Their free time was experden in many ways: the long-distance transprot of opbjects, hunting big and /or extremely dangerous animals, manugaturing objects the purpose of which we cannot grasp, discovering new production procedures, eyoerimentation, etc., The impact of these technologeis on the envirnmet was minimal,m but the bearing on our lives is immense: without them we would not exest today.
