Abstract:
During limited periods in the years 1931, 1934/1935 and 1949 the author did fieldwork with Bongo-Rimba groups living in symbiotic relationships mainly with Kunyi, Nzabi, Puno, Teke and Yaka. The present work is an account of the result of this fieldwork. The studies centred mainly on the spiritual aspects of Bongo-Rimba culture, more especially on current concepts of the Supreme Being, the human soul and the afterlife, on the ancestor cult and totemism as well as on the magician and his social position.
