Abstract:
Diese einmalige, englischsprachige Sammlung on Beiträgen, Essays, öffentlichen Reden, autobiographischen Studien und kurzen Monographien - von amerikanischen Indianern aus den Vereinigten Staaten und Kanada in der Zeit von 1768 bis 1931 geschrieben - umfaßt ein breites Spektrum indianischen Lebens wie zum Beispiel Geschichte, Religionen, Bildung und Erziehung, Politik.Damit wird nun für eine größere Öffentlichkeit ein Überblick über frühe indianische Literatur geschaffen. Bisher sind die indianischen Autoren von Gelehrten wie Verlegern fast vollkommmen ignoriert worden. Bernd Peyer ist es gelungen, diese sonst völlig unzugänglichen Texte für ein breites Publikum zusammenzustellen.Das Buch ist zudem mit einer Werk-Bibliographie indianischer Autoren aus der Zeit von 1722 bis 1938 versehen und durch 12 Photographien aufgelockert.
