    Abstract: In China: Promise or Threat? Helle compares the cultures of China and the West through both private and public spheres. For China, the private sphere of family life is well developed while behaviour in public relating to matters of government and the law is less reliable. In contrast, the West operates in reverse. The book’s twelve chapters investigate the causes and effects of threats to the environment, military confrontations, religious differences, fundamentals of cultural history, and the countries’ orientations for finding solutions to societal problems, all informed by the Confucian impulse to recapture the lost splendour of a past versus faith in progress toward a blessed future. The West has promoted individualism while China is locked in its kinship society

    Abstract: Von der Trendsportart Parkour über das Alte Testament bis hin zur Berliner Hausbesetzerszene - die vielfältigen Beiträge dieses Sammelbandes stellen sich der Herausforderung, Fragen zu den Verschränkungen von Raum und Geschlecht anders zu denken. Vorherrschende Interpretationen aktueller gesellschaftlicher Phänomene sowie etablierte Forschungsgegenstände werden dabei auf den Prüfstand gestellt, um vergeschlechtlichten Machtstrukturen auf die Spur zu kommen. So finden sich widerständige Maschen und machtvolle Muster in einem breiten Themenspektrum, das von der Betrachtung performativer Akte und diskursiver Strukturen bis hin zu medialen Aufbereitungen reicht. Einführende Kommentare von Nikita Dhawan, Antje Flüchter, Stephan Günzel, Sabine Hark und Helga Meise rahmen die Beiträge.
    Abstract: From the sports trend of parkour, via the Old Testament, up to the Berlin squatting scene - the different contributions to this volume take up the challenge of rethinking questions about the entanglement of space and gender. Predominant interpretations of current societal phenomena as well as established research topics are examined in order to trace gendered power structures. Thus, resistant moves/tricks (Maschen) and powerful games/acts (Muster) are found in a wide range of topics reaching from observations of performative acts and discourse structures all the way to medial treatments. Introductory comments by Nikita Dhawan, Antje Flüchter, Stephan Günzel, Sabine Hark, and Helga Meise frame the contributions.
