Abstract:
Der renommierte Fotograf Georg Kürzinger (zuletzt BA 6/00) hat kurze Textpassagen (jeweils 1 bis 2 der großformatigen Seiten) aus den bekanntesten Werken des ägyptischen Literaturnobelpreisträgers Nagib Machfus ausgewählt und mit wunderschönen Fotos illustriert. Texte und Bilder greifen verschiedene Aspekte ägyptischen Lebens auf: Nil, Altertum, Islam, Kopten, Frauen, Kinder, Kaffeehaus, Altstadtleben. Beim Literaten wie beim Fotografen stehen die Menschen im Mittelpunkt, beide zeigen uns farbenprächtig und lebendig das Leben in Kairo. Text und Bild ergänzen sich großartig, laden ein zu einer Reise ins ferne Land, gleichzeitig zu und in sich selbst. Allerdings: Machfus-Interessierte werden wohl eher zu den Werken oder zur Biografie von H. Fähndrich (BA 12/91) greifen, Ägypten-Reisende werden auf den Fotos die "Sehenswürdigkeiten" vermissen. Trotzdem sollten Bibliotheken, die etwas Geld erübrigen können, ihren Lesern diesen traumhaften Band gönnen. (Elisabeth Mair-Gummermann)
