Abstract:
Verlagsinfo: L'arrivo a Taormina nel 1878 del barone tedesco omosessuale Wilhelm von Gloeden è stato considerato l'inizio del turismo moderno della località siciliana. La relazione tra il fotografo e la comunità locale, al di là degli stereotipi e rappresentazioni tendenti a mitizzare gli anni tra la fine dell'Ottocento e gli inizi del Novecento, è stata molto più complessa, presentandosi per un verso come la colonizzazione, persino dei corpi adolescenti, da parte degli stranieri omosessuali nei confronti dei ragazzi siciliani; per un altro come l'incorporazione da parte dei locali di modelli culturali "altri" per un uso rovesciato del potere economico e sociale. Non una vicenda di costume, ma un vero e proprio conflitto sociale, dal quale alcuni sono usciti vinti (emigrati o emarginati dal contesto locale) o vincitori (nuovi ricchi, imprenditori turistici, divenuti tali perché aiutati da un facoltoso "amico" straniero), La rappresentazione ideologica attraverso stereotipi legati alla cultura romantica del nord Europa e proiettati sul Sud d’Italia ha, poi, durante tutto il Novecento, creato il mito dei luoghi come Taormina, Capri, Venezia, ritenuti libertari, tolleranti, un po' greci, un po' arabi, nei quali l'omosessualità assume funzioni ideologiche, sdogananti, destoricizzanti. Il testo propone una lettura antropologica dell'intera vicenda, con l'ausilio di fonti originali, e ne svela il sostrato retorico e la natura politica.
