    Kurzfassung: The globalization of media industries that began during the 1980s and 1990s occurred at the same time as the establishment of or return to democratic forms of government in many Latin American countries. In this volume of specially commissioned essays, thirteen well-known media experts examine how the intersection of globalization and democratization has transformed media systems and policies throughout Latin America. C'est au moins ce que souhaite Paul Sebag dans la Préface de la dernière édition des Mille et Un Jours (Bourgois, 1980). Or, cet espoir n'est pas sans soulever quelques questions. Pourquoi, aujourd'hui, Les Mille et Un Jours sont-ils toujours des contes plus ou moins inconnus ? Est-ce à tort ou à raison ? S'agit-il d'une traduction ou d'un texte français ?     Kurzfassung: Puerto Ricans in the United States face an array of language judgments. Their linguistic differences are culturally objectified as "accents," "mixed" or "broken language," and "bad" versus "good" English. These objectifications are about a lot more than language. They represent a complex and highly politicized mapping of racial exclusion and class location. Through ethnographic studies and interviews done on New York's Lower East Side and in the Bronx, the author examines in detail the intersection of race, class, and language in the working-class Puerto Rican experience

    Kurzfassung: Between 1690 and 1715, well over one hundred literary fairy tales appeared in France, two-thirds of them written by women. This 1996 book explores why fashionable adults were attracted to this new literary genre and, integrating socio-historical, structuralist, and post-structuralist approaches, considers how it became a medium for reconceiving literary and historical discourses of sexuality and gender. The first part of the book considers how the marvellous is used to legitimize the genre, to exemplify theories of 'modern' culture, and to reaffirm women's potential as writers. The second part examines how specific groups of tales both reiterate and unsettle late seventeenth-century discourses of love, masculinity and femininity through conventions such as the romantic quest, the marriage closure, chivalric heroes and good and evil fairies
