    Abstract: Räumliche Mobilität ist eine Signatur der modernen Weltgesellschaft, und die Zahl derjenigen, die ihre Heimat verlassen, um für eine begrenzte Zeit im Ausland zu leben und zu arbeiten, nimmt stetig zu. Obwohl die Gruppe der so genannten »Expatriates« im Globalisierungsprozess unbestritten eine Schlüsselposition einnimmt, sind ihre besonderen Lebensbedingungen bislang kaum untersucht worden. Die Studie »Heimat auf Zeit« beleuchtet die bei den »Expats« vorgefundenen praktischen Dimensionen von Globalisierung im Alltag am Beispiel der syrischen Hauptstadt Damaskus. Dabei entsteht ein detailreiches Bild der global-lokalen Expat-Gemeinschaft und der individuellen Anstrengungen von Frauen, für sich und ihre Familien eine »Heimat auf Zeit« zu schaffen
