Abstract: Verlagsinfo: Since the Second World War more than 1,000 black independent congregations in around 300 different organizations have sprung up all over Britain. The immigration of Afro-Caribbeans and West Africans has led to the emergence and growth of many churches, which flourish in the cities and attract a growing number of members. They now play an increasingly active role in the social and ecumenical life of the nation, which is reflected in cooperation with the "New Instrument" of the British churches. They comprise a rich diversity of theological traditions and cultural inheritance, some in an interesting blend, some in a struggle with white elements. Existence and growth of these communities have often been explained by factors inherent in British society, such as social deprivation and English racism. The book attempts to prove that, as much these factors are a reality, they do not account for the dynamics of the movement, its proliferation and stability. Rather these congregations are carried by strong cultural and theological forces, which molded the spiritual experience of the African diaspora. They carry a living faith, sound contextual theologies, and a form of organization, which presents a model for other ethnic minorities. Author Biography: Roswith Gerloff is Founding Director of the Centre for Black and White Christian Partnership, Birmingham, UK, and former Senior Research Fellow at the University of Leeds, UK.

Abstract: This book explores the stark stratification and struggles over classifications in US academia from a relational perspective, looking beyond material differences and tracing its roots to symbolic power relations. Based on a mixed methods study drawing on both interview and quantitative data, it offers an account of the workings of academia, shedding light on the structures that permit elite departments to define categories and impose legitimate scientific definitions, to which the non-elite must adhere. With a focus on two scientific disciplines, the author shows how the translation of objective structures into mental structures establishes a relationship of power with regard to the definition of scientific categories, thus determining access to resources and opportunities to participate and move within the academic field. A study of the unequal intrusion of economic logics into the academic domain, this volume will appeal to scholars, policy makers and institutional leaders with interests in higher education, inequality within science, academic careers, power relationships and competition in the academy

Abstract: Welcome to the wonderful world of Groovy, and get ready to supercharge your developer productivity by harnessing the power of Groovy's lightweight and succinct programming syntax. In this course, we take you step-by-step through the most common features and programming idioms of the Groovy programming language. We'll explore Groovy's lightweight and powerful syntax, which slashes development time down by at least a quarter of the time you'd spend writing the equivalent program in Java. Even if you are a proficient Java developer, Groovy could still become your go-to language when it comes to knocking up quick scripts to automate drudge work--and even for writing full-scale applications using other frameworks such as Grails and Griffon. Groovy is predominantly seen today in Jenkins pipelines scripts and in Gradle build scripts, but this really underplays its power and versatility, as we'll see in this course. Once you learn Groovy, you will get excited about its features and start using it in your day-to-day developer activities.

Abstract: Die Dissertation ist eine Ethnographie des Staates im Flüchtlingslager Kakuma und in der Integrierten Siedlung Kalobeyei, Kenia.
Abstract: This thesis is an ethnographic account of the state within Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement, Kenya. Drawing from twelve months of in-depth ethnographic fieldwork between 2018 and 2019, the thesis explores the multiplicity and mobility of states within the camp. In 2016, the Kenyan state agency RAS assumed key camp managerial and refugee protection positions from the UNHCR. Previous research focusing on refugee camps has largely ignored the presence of the state, tending to overemphasise the governing role of the UNHCR and camps as Agambenian ‘state of exception’. This thesis addresses this imbalance and shifts our attention to how camps are highly political spaces, hosting an array of mobile national and foreign state actors, organisations, and institutions. The thesis utilises the concept of ‘encamped states’ to argue that, within the temporary encamped setting of Kakuma and Kalobeyei, states are both multiple and mobile.

Abstract: This is a no-nonsense, demo-based introduction to getting started with Maven. You'll learn how to work with the Maven build tool, which is currently the number-one industry standard for creating Java applications. By concentrating on practical hands-on demonstrations, you'll see firsthand how Maven works. From there you will develop the skills--and the confidence--to use it on your own to build your Java projects at home, college, or in the workplace. While many video courses are delivered presentation style, this unique course uses a demonstration-first approach, explaining concepts through demonstration. You'll experience this approach first "at the command line," with videos showing what Maven is doing and explaining how it is doing it; then in IDEs using the sophisticated Maven integration that Eclipse and IntelliJ IDEA provide. In this way, you'll develop an understanding of the nuts and bolts of the tool and be in a position to develop effectively after the course is over. This approach also equips you with the "under the hood" understanding you need to effectively troubleshoot any problems you may encounter when developing with Maven on your own. Though this course has some useful content for people who are already using Maven, it is really intended for Maven beginners. Maybe you've started a new job where they use it to build their applications, or you're learning industry-standard tools to better place you ahead of the competition in the job market. By unlocking the mechanics of how Maven works in front of your eyes, the course will equip you to better build Java projects with the tool and have fun doing so.

Abstract: In this course, you will learn the skills you need to be able to apply TDD in your .NET projects. Test Driven Development (TDD) is a powerful approach to building solid and robust software. Unit Testing is a type of software testing where code is written to automate the testing of sub-sections of an entire application. This methodology gives more functional coverage and reduces the need for manual regression testing when the application's code changes. The purpose is to validate that each unit of the software code performs as expected. You will discover the basics of unit testing and the red-green-refactor cycle. You will also learn how to test and implement business logic in a .NET Core application using xUnit as a testing framework and Moq as a mocking library. After this course, you will have fundamental knowledge of Test Driven Development that will help you as you move forward to test and implement new features in your C# projects. You will have the skills and knowledge of creating a testable and maintainable ASP.NET Core application needed to architect real-world, enterprise .NET Core apps.

Abstract: One of the biggest complaints I hear from students is that most of the courses they've taken in the past simply provide information without any context and without any idea of how to put that information to use! This course turns that old, frustrating, and outdated way of learning on its head. Have you tried to learn shell scripting on your own, but lack the structure you need to really improve your skills? Are you tired of picking up bits and pieces of information that you can't just seem to put together? Do you learn best by doing? If so, you're going to love this course. It's project-based, which means instead of learning bits and pieces of information, you'll write actual shell scripts that you can use in real-world situations. You get the chance to immediately put what you learn to use so that you fully understand and remember it.

Abstract: Die Forschung für diese Doktorarbeit wurde im Rahmen des ERC-Projekts „Realising Eurasia: Civilisation and Moral Economy in the 21st Century“ durchgeführt.
Abstract: This PhD research was conducted as part of the project entitled ‘Realising Eurasia: Civilisation and Moral Economy in the 21st century’, which aimed to understand how morality and economy are entangled with each other from a new perspective. This dissertation focused on the perspectives of small (family) businesses in Szeged and examined both the material and non-material processes in which these businesses emerged and reproduced themselves in post-Socialist Hungary. The focus on work and economic practices in small businesses provided a unique angle on the study of the links between value formation and politico-economic processes both socially and empirically. In doing so, this PhD work utilized a holistic approach by bringing together various theories from two major domains: political economy, and social theories of morality and values that constituted the theoretical context for the dissertation’s empirical research into everyday experiences of work and economic activities.

Abstract: In this course, you will learn how to set up your own home network with static IP addresses and port forwarding so that anyone can access your programs over the Internet. Then you will learn how to set up a simple two-way chat in the terminal using the Socket module. Next, you will learn how to use the threading module to create a simple chat room in the terminal and how to use the Tkinter module to create a GUI chat room like the old AOL chat rooms. Later, we will look at how to create an advanced GUI chat room with admin window using the JSON module, and finally, how to create your own online multiplayer game using the Pygame module. As this is a project-based course, each project builds on the knowledge gained during the previous projects. In our culminating project, when we attempt to create our own online multiplayer game, we will be generating IPV4/TCP sockets to connect computers to a server running on a machine with a static IP and port forwarding enabled, creating various threads to run processes concurrently on our machines, we will use JSON to serialize python objects such as our game state and game players, and have a fully interactive GUI interface using Pygame. By the end of this course, you will have multiple projects you can share with friends or family, have them run a client script from their house, connect to your server script, and show off all you learned. What You Will Learn Use the socket module to create a terminal-based two-way chat Use the threading module to create a terminal-based chat room Use a Tkinter module to make a GUI chat room Configure router to allow communication from an external network Use the JSON/Pickle modules to build an advanced GUI chat room with an admin window Use the Pygame module to create an online multiplayer game Audience This intermediate course is intended for students with a basic understanding of Python and core programming concepts as well as comfort levels with both functional and object-oriented programming, as both will be used in the course's second half. Abstract: This course teaches you the Python basics--nothing more, nothing less. Taking the time to explain the basics gives you the foundation you need to start any project or learning path and career. To be clear, this course is not an all-in-one, 60-hour course with 45 projects that's going to take you 6 months to complete. I'm not saying those courses are bad; I'm taking a different approach to focus on just the basics. At the end of this course, and this is important, you will have a strong foundation in Python basics. You will be able to build on that foundation with confidence.

Abstract: Learning the Linux command line can be quite confusing at best. I experienced that on my own with my first Linux lessons in school. I just didn't get it, and I didn't see the point of using all those complicated commands to complete exercises that I wasn't going to use in real life. At first, I was lost and kind of demotivated about it. But after a few professional experiences (web and mobile development, server administration and automation, and robotics), I started to get a good grasp on the Linux terminal, and more importantly, I started to really understand why I need it and why it's super powerful. Now, when I use Linux OS, I remove almost all graphical tools and open the terminal for everything. I've put all my years of Linux experience into this course with a strong focus on understanding what you're doing and why you're doing it. This is basically what was lacking in my own education. My goal is that you get a strong Linux command-line foundation in just a few hours and maybe avoid being confused for a few months or years before really getting it. This Linux command-line foundation helps you with anything IT related: web or software development, data science, machine learning, robotics, system administration, and so forth. This course provides the building blocks that you need to go in any other direction. There are many things that look fancy but are a waste of time, especially when you begin. I'm going to teach you what I use personally. No need to learn 150 commands to get started. With just a few commands and a good understanding, you can go a long way.

Abstract: Regular expressions have a bad reputation for being difficult to understand. This course introduces tools and a systematic approach so you can unlock the power of regular expressions to write compact, elegant code. In this course, we will cover concepts from basic to advanced. The examples progress in a logical, narrative way. At the end of one example, we will think about how we might tweak it to do something similar but more powerful. In this way, the concepts flow naturally from one example to the next. There are also 41 exercises. You are given a description of a regular expression, and then you write it using your choice of JavaScript or Python syntax. After you're done, tests written especially for the exercises will let you know whether your regular expressions did the job they were supposed to. These exercises are a fun, interactive way to cement the concepts in your brain, and make sure you really understand the material presented in the lectures. Depending on your level of experience, you can start at the beginning, or start later with concepts you've always been interested in, but haven't had a chance to learn yet.

Skill Level: Beginner Intermediate Learn How To: Understand your audience and the approach you should take to your data visualization Optimize data visualizations for different data cultures and points in the life cycle Collaborate with others to produce data visualizations Manage pain points when working with different data professionals Improve data explanation Design for different kinds of data products and delivery methods Build a data visualization culture and increase data literacy Investigate automated and machine-based analysis View data visualizations as business assets Who Should Take This Course: Audience: This video series is designed to provide key context and skills for data visualization creators whether they are analysts, data scientists, data engineers or even downstream data consumers and leadership. You'll find the most value in the course if you've learned some fundamentals of data visualization and need more practical advice for how to work with peers and stakeholders to create effective data communication. Course Requirements: Working understanding of basic data visualization (knowing when and being able to create bar charts, line charts and scatterplots) Experience building data products like dashboards, reports or presentations using data visualization Familiarity with the data lifecycle Topics Include: Lesson 1. Understanding Stakeholders and Approaches to Data Visualization Data visualization is often taught as if there was only one kind of approach to answer one kind of question for one kind of audience. But data visualization out in the real world is used in many different ways with different goals and different ways of measuring impact. In this section, I introduce the data visualization life cycle, which will provide you with a broader understanding of different approaches to data visualization. Lesson 2. Optimizing for Different Data Cultures It's not enough to understand that there are different ways of doing data visualization from a theoretical standpoint. This section focuses on specific and practical aspects of how you might visualize the same information differently depending on where you and your audience are in the data visualization life cycle. We focus in on how to visualize data for data wrangling, data engineering, and data science. Lesson 3. Collaboration Foundations Collaboration isn't well-described in a data visualization setting, even though it happens all the time. In this section, we explore how different roles collaborate with each other as well as how principles of collaboration help you to design charts even if the audience is only yourself. To understand collaboration, we look at it from several different angles including collaboration between data roles to make a product, collaboration with stakeholders, and how to think about collaborating with yourself. Lesson 4. Collaboration in Mature Data Organizations Once you've mastered the general principles of collaboration you need to understand how we collaborate in more mature data settings. This section highlights typical modes of collaboration in organizations with different data roles by looking at each data role--analyst, data engineer, and data scientist--to understand typical areas of friction between the roles to develop a data visualization product. Lesson 5. Improving Data Explanation When your data visualization is used for explanatory purposes you need to leverage all the features available to you to make the most actionable charts. This section provides you with an overview and specific examples of how to make your data visualization more informative and accessible but also more likely to be used and acted upon. Lesson 6. Productization Productionalization Productischemizationismeizen Sometimes we view charts in a dashboard, sometimes in an email report, and sometimes using interactive scrollytelling. This section details the affordances and tradeoffs of each of these modes with tips and techniques to ensure that you're using the right mode and taking advantage of its strengths. Lesson 7. Closing the Loop We often think that charts only exist for a single decision, but they live on and affect more than just the moment they were made for. In this section, we explore how charts live on in an organization and what it means for you, your team, and your organization. Understanding this not only lets you make more effective charts but also makes for a more effective organization by growing data literacy and developing long-term processes that lead to better data visualization and better results from that data visualization.
