Abstract:
Sich schminken, um ein gutes Äusseres kümmern im Krieg, in Flüchtlingslagern, in totalitären Staaten, in der russischen Strafkolonie, im Stasi-Gefängnis? Ist das nicht oberflächlich und eitel? Nein, denn sich nicht gehen zu lassen, auf sich zu achten, sich herzurichten ist auch ein Kampf gegen Resignation und Depression, unterstreicht den Überlebenswillen und ist in Extremsituationen "viel stärker als im normalen Leben. Man versucht, die Welt, in der man einst gelebt hat, zu erhalten". Schon in der Antike legten Frauen Wert auf ihr Äusseres, doch ganz besonders in Krisenzeiten bedeutet Mode für Frauen Selbstversicherung und Identitätsstärkung. "Eine Art von Panzer. Sinnbild ist der Lippenstift, seine Botschaft ist Sinnlichkeit und "Sinnlichkeit ist Leben. Das Gegenteil von Tod und Misere". Davon erzählen bewegende Geschichten von 23 Frauen in Notzeiten, die mit anrührenden Mitteln versuchten, sich sauber zu halten, zu pflegen und zu verschönern, um sich ihre Weiblichkeit, Selbstachtung und Würde zu erhalten.
