〈p〉Fußball ist heute ein Milliardengeschäft: hochprofessionell, extrem kommerzialisiert und in seiner weltweiten Popularität unübertroffen. Der Blick in die Geschichte des englischen und deutschen Fußballs zeigt jedoch, dass diese Entwicklung keinesfalls vorgezeichnet war. Spätestens seit den 1970er Jahren glitt das Spiel in beiden Ländern in eine tiefe Krise, die sich in einem anhaltenden Rückgang der Zuschauerzahlen, maroden Stadien, verschuldeten Vereinen und chronischen Problemen mit gewaltbereiten Fans äußerte.〈/p〉〈p〉Wie war es möglich, dass es sowohl in Deutschland als auch in England nach einer jahrzehntelangen Phase der Reformunwilligkeit um 1990 nahezu zeitgleich zu einer radikalen Neuausrichtung des Spiels unter den Vorzeichen von Vermarktlichung und Globalisierung kam? Dieser Frage geht Hannah Jonas nach, indem sie die Geschichte des Fußballs in den größeren zeitgeschichtlichen Zusammenhang von Konsum, Medien, Globalisierung und politisch-kulturellen Trends einbettet.〈/p〉...
