    Abstract: Die Zukunft der Entwicklung in den verschiedenen Weltregionen und die Beziehungen zwischen den Entwicklungsregionen und der „Ersten Welt“ hängen stark davon ab, wie Entwicklungskonzepte und -prozesse mit identitätsstiftenden Konstruktionen in den betreffenden Ländern interagieren, ob es zu zukunftsweisenden Synthesen oder aber zu wechselseitigen Abstoßungsprozessen kommt, die in radikalen ethnischen bzw. religiösen Partikularismen einmünden. Vor dem Hintergrund dieser Tendenzen und der „kulturellen Wende“, welche verschiedene Fachdisziplinen in jüngster Zeit durchlaufen haben, stellen sich zehn renommierte Wissenschaftler aus der Sicht von sieben Fachdisziplinen der seit Max Weber immer wieder thematisierten Fragen nach dem Zusammenhang von Kultur und Entwicklung und versuchen, diese aus der Kenntnis heutiger Problemlagen zu beantworten. Der Band wendet sich an mit Entwicklungsfragen befasste Wissenschaftler und all jene, die sich für kulturelle Aspekte von Entwicklungsprozessen interessieren
