English | English In the hill-country of interior Sörland a haystack is built at a height of about 600 metres by a farmer's family. Hay-bundles are heaped up on a foundation of birch twigs around a pillar, alternately with shrubby birch twigs to improve the ventilation. These twigs are fixed by pairs to the pillar and help to hold the haystack together. The stack is carefully shaped and beaten into form and then fastened at the top with a ring of birch twigs. Finally a windbreak is made from long straight birch branches which are tied together at the upper end and put all-round the stack. |
