In Han myth the dragon symbolizes power as he rules over the element water, i.e. the outcome of the next harvest, peoples' health and wealth. His temper can ruin everything through extreme floods or draught. The Daban Well in the outskirts of Jianshui dates back to the Ming Dynasty, and although tap water is available, people prefer the well's water and perform rituals in honor of the Dragon King.
