| English | English The Bulala musician Dungus moves the bow, with the left hand he strikes the string. For rhythmic accompaniment to the <i>kukuma</i> the musician's companion shakes a calabash rattle. The instrumental music, however, is only accompaniment to the song which is the main presentation. Dungus sings, in Bulala and in Arab, songs in praise of several rich Dangaleat men and in praise of the beauty of Bulala and Arab women. Each epithet pronounced by the singer is acclaimed with a quaver uttered by one of the women present.The women's quavering plays an important part in the performance: it stimulates the singer and celebrates the person praised. The film presents the song of praise at full length. |
