    Abstract: Am Dorfrand von Ladio tanzen Mitglieder der Maskentanzgesellschaft zur Trommel- und Spitzflötenbegleitung. Sie sind in rote Fibergewänder gehüllt, ihre hölzernen, bemalten Aufsatzmasken stellen Tiere dar: Antilope, Pferd, Affe, Hornschnabelvogel. Die Tänzer ahmen die Bewegungen der Tiere nach. Es tritt auch eine lange Brettermaske auf.
    Abstract: Members of the mask dance society perform to the musical accompaniment of drums and wooden flutes. The dancers are covered in red garments and their painted headdresses represent various animals whose movements the performers strive to imitate. A long board with symbolic figures on it has a moralistic meaning.

    Abstract: In Tourni stellt ein Schmied einen Armring mit aufgeschweißtem Mäanderband her. Ein anderer Schmied in Kankalaba schmiedet ein zweischneidiges Messer mit einer polierten scharfen Kante, die parallel zu der Messerschneide liegt. Seine Gehilfen stellen den Holzgriff her. Beide Schmiede benutzen ein aus Lehm gebautes Doppelschalengebläse mit Schaffellmembranen.

    Abstract: Es werden Kriegstänze mit gemimten Kampfhandlungen unter Voranschreiten des Kriegsführers und ein Scheinkampf zwischen zwei Kriegerscharen mit je einem Vorkämpfer vorgeführt. Zum Schluß führen zwei mit Bogen, Beil, Schild und Helm bewaffnete Krieger die Kampfesweise beim Einzelkampf vor.
    Abstract: Presents three forms of war dances. The first is performed with invisible weapons and drum accompaniment and is the same dance used before the departure to actual battle and after the victorious return of the soldiers. The second scene is a mock combat between two troops of warriors. At the end of that performance two warriors equipped with bow, hatchet, shield and helmet demonstrate the procedures used in hand-to-hand combat.

    Abstract: Im Dorf Korabiye flechten eine Frau und zwei Männer einen rechteckigen Strohkorb mit farbigen Mustern, einen runden Rutenkorb sowie in Spiralwulsttechnik einen Grasdeckel. Ein Knabe stellt ein Provianttäschchen her, indem er über einen spiralig aufgerollten Grasstrang Schlingen legt und netzartig verknotet; dann entfernt er den Grasstrang. Ein anderer Knabe flicht eine Schleuder und demonstriert die Handhabung.
    Abstract: Shows the plaiting techniques used in creating a number of items: a small rectangular basket, a round basket, a grass and bark plate, a storage container, and a sling for carrying a child. The proper handling of the sling is then demonstrated.

Zum Schluß wird das fertige Werkstück vom Meister unter Musikbegleitung in feierlicher Prozession zum Ahnenaltar gebracht und dort den Ahnen vorgewiesen.
    Abstract: A slice of an elephant's tooth is sawed off. With hatchet and knife this ivory piece is worked into an arm ring to be worn by a young woman. The finished product is taken to an altar and ceremoniously displayed to the ancestors for their approval.

    Abstract: Zwei Söhne des Schnitzers in Koumbili fällen einen Kapokbaum, indem sie rund um den Baum eine Kerbe schlagen, bis er umfällt. Mit der Spannlänge der Hand werden drei Rohlinge abgemessen und vom Stamm getrennt. In seinem Gehöft bearbeitet der Schnitzer einen der Blöcke mit Querbeil und Axt und haut daraus einen vierbeinigen Frauenhocker.

The departure and homecoming of the ruler are carried out with much pomp, similar to the leaving and return of troops in battle. Dances performed therefore include war dances as well as cultic and entertaining dances.

Einige Schritte vom Waschplatz flußaufwärts wird das Wasser zum Trinken und Kochen von den Frauen mit kleinen Kürbisschalen in große Tontöpfe und kugelförmige Kürbisschalen geschöpft und auf dem Kopf transportiert.

Um ein gutes Gelingen zu sichern, ruft der Medizinmann die Ahnen an und bringt ihnen am Ahnenstein Trank- und Huhnopfer dar.
