    Abstract: Verlagsinfo: Im April 2005 zeigte GEO die Fotos des amerikanischen Fotografen Peter Menzel, der für sein von GEO unterstütztes Buchprojekt 30 Familien in 24 Ländern aufsuchte und sie mit dem fotografierte, was sie in einer Woche satt macht. Das Buch erschien ebenfalls bei GEO. Es ist ein Folgeprojekt des 2001 erschienen Bestsellers "So lebt der Mensch" für das unter der Leitung von Peter Menzel und seiner Frau Faith D'Aluisio Familien rund um die Welt mit ihrem gesamten Hab und Gut fotografiert wurden. Mit "So isst der Mensch" haben Peter Menzel und Faith D'Aluisio zum zweiten Mal eine globale Bestandsaufnahme zur Lebenssituation der Weltfamilie vorgelegt. Beim ersten Projekt ging es um den materiellen Besitz und in diesem Projekt um Kopf und Bauch und Seele. Es zeigt was Menschen in Bosnien und Bhutan, in Mexiko und in die Mongolei brauchen, um eine Woche lang satt zu werden. Eine gewaltige Agrarindustrie, Massentourismus und Globalisierung führen zu einer Vermischung und Angleichung der Lebensmittelkultur rund um den Globus. Und dennoch offenbart sich in dem, was die Menschen essen, noch immer viel von ihrer Geschichte, ihrer Eigenart, ihrer sozialen Situation. Wir sind, was wir essen: im Hunger ebenso wie im Überfluss.
