Abstract:
»Umkämpftes Essen« bringt erstmals interdisziplinäre Perspektiven zum globalen Ernährungssystem aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum zusammen. Der Band analysiert die Globalisierung der Produktion, des Handels und des Konsums von Lebensmitteln, untersucht die Verbindungen zwischen Produzenten und Konsumenten und deckt die Interessen und Machtstrukturen auf, die das globale Ernährungssystem bestimmen. An den Schnittstellen zwischen Sozial- und Regionalwissenschaften sowie der Globalisierungsforschung angesiedelt, fokussiert »Umkämpftes Essen« auf die Akteure, die das globale Ernährungssystem gestalten, und analysiert ihre Interessen, Machtstrategien und Handlungsspielräume. Dies erfolgt am Beispiel empirisch dichter Fallstudien aus Europa, Asien und (Nord-)Afrika, die ausgewählte Einblicke in regionalspezifische Kontexte liefern und jeweils in die globalen Zusammenhänge des Ernährungssystems eingeordnet werden. Die Autorinnen und Autoren des Bandes zeigen: Unser globales Ernährungssystem wird zunehmend von privatwirtschaftlichen Akteuren und Interessen bestimmt. Die Bedingungen von Lebensmittelproduktion, -handel, und -konsum sollten jedoch Gegenstand einer öffentlichen und demokratischen Debatte sein, betreffen sie doch grundlegende Fragen unserer Gesellschaft. Mit dieser Botschaft richtet sich der Band nicht nur an ein akademisches, sondern auch an ein interessiertes Laienpublikum sowie Vertreter von sozialen Bewegungen, Politik und Wirtschaft.
