Abstract: DB2℗ʼ 10 can reduce the total DB2 CPU demand from 5-20% when you take advantage of all the enhancements. Many CPU reductions are built in directly to DB2, requiring no application changes. Some enhancements are implemented through normal DB2 activities through rebinding, restructuring database definitions, improving applications, and utility processing. The CPU demand reduction features have the potential to provide significant total cost of ownership savings based on the application mix and transaction types. Improvements in optimization reduce costs by processing SQL automatically with more efficient data access paths. Improvements through a range-list index scan access method, list prefetch for IN-list, more parallelism for select and index insert processing, better work file usage, better record identifier (RID) pool overflow management, improved sequential detection, faster log I/O, access path certainty evaluation for static SQL, and improved distributed data facility (DDF) transaction flow all provide more efficiency without changes to applications. These enhancements can reduce total CPU enterprise costs because of improved efficiency in the DB2 10 for z/OS. DB2 10 includes numerous performance enhancements for Large Objects (LOBs) that save disk space for small LOBs and that provide dramatically better performance for LOB retrieval, inserts, load, and import/export using DB2 utilities. DB210 can also more effectively REORG partitions that contain LOBs. This IBM Redbooks℗ʼ publication℗ʼ provides an overview of the performance impact of DB2 10 for z/OS discussing the overall performance and possible impacts when moving from version to version. We include performance measurements that were made in the laboratory and provide some estimates. Keep in mind that your results are likely to vary, as the conditions and work will differ. In this book, we assume that you are somewhat familiar with DB2 10 for z/OS. See DB2 10 for z/OS Technical Overview, SG24-7892-00, for an introduction to the new functions.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication shows the strengths of z/VM and how you can use these strengths to create a highly flexible test and production environment. Some of the strengths of z/VM that are shown in this book are that you can run Linux on z/VM, you can run a sysplex under z/VM, and you can develop code under z/VM for z/TPF. You can also provision Linux guests under z/VM. A vswitch allows you to connect all of your guests (all operating systems that run under z/VM) easily to the network. You can simulate your production environment on a sysplex. The intention of this book is to show the strengths of z/VM and how you can use these strengths to simulate your production Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

Abstract: As companies compete in the e-business marketplace, they find that they must re-evaluate their business processes and applications so that their technology is not limited by time, space, organizational boundaries, or territorial borders. They must consider the time it takes to implement the solution as well as the resources (people, money, and time) they have at their disposal to successfully execute the solution. These challenges, coupled with the integration issues of existing systems and the pressure to deliver consistent high-quality service, present a significant undertaking when developing an e-business solution. IBM Patterns for e-business provide a structured way of decomposing simple or complex requirements into a layered set of reusable architectures and designs. This IBM Redbooks publication's focus is on documenting the currently observed usages of the Patterns for e-business. This IBM Redbooks publication is part of the Patterns for e-business series. We introduce three identified pattern approaches and examine pattern scenarios for each of them. The three pattern approaches are: Approach 1: Building solutions on the basis of a Single Business pattern We discuss the key features and identify guidelines for each of these approaches. We document the alignment of these approaches within a context of a proven methodology, the IBM Global Services Method.

Abstract: This IBM℗ʼ Redbooks℗ʼ publication reviews the CICSPlex℗ʼ SM Web User Interface (WUI). We first give an overview of CICSPlex SM and the WUI. In Chapter 2, "CICSPlex SM installation" on page 13, we show an installation for first time users of CICSPlex SM and the WUI for CICSPlex SM V3.2. Chapter 3, "CICSPlex SM migration" on page 55, concentrates on how to migrate to CICSPlex SM V3.2. We discuss the migration best practices and show a migration step-by-step. This book also reviews the default menus delivered with the CICSPlex SM WUI and describes scenarios where these views could be used. We also discuss view modification and customization, focusing on such things as favorites and how to use the view editor. This book contains a chapter on problem determination. In that chapter we discuss problems that may be discovered and fixed using the CICSPlex SM WUI. Typical problems that we concentrate on are problems with files and in storage, as well as usage of the history facility. In the final few chapters of this book we look at CICSPlex SM security and describe how to implement SSL in the CICSPlex SM WUI. The last chapter of this book gives the reader some hints and tips on problems encountered, and considerations when using the CICSPlex SM WUI.

Abstract: The z/OS® Distributed File Service zSeries® File System (zFS) is a z/OS UNIX® file system that can be used like the Hierarchical File System (HFS). zFS file systems contain files and directories, including Access Control Lists (ACLs), that can be accessed with the z/OS HFS application programming interfaces (APIs). zFS file systems can be mounted into the z/OS UNIX hierarchy along with other local or remote file system types (for example, HFS, TFS, AUTOMNT, NFS, and so on). zFS does not replace HFS, but it is the z/OS UNIX strategic file system and IBM® recommends migrating HFS file systems to zFS. Beginning with z/OS V1R7, there are no restrictions for file system structures that should be kept as HFS instead of zFS. This IBM Redbooks® publication helps you to install, tailor, and configure new zFS file systems. This information can be used by system administrators who work with the zFS component of the IBM z/OS Distributed File Service base element. The book provides a broad description of the new architecture of the zFS file system. You can use it as a reference when converting HFS file systems to zFS file systems. It will help you to create a solution for migrating to zFS file systems, and to understand the performance differences between HFS file systems and zFS file systems.
