Abstract: Die vorliegende Fallstudie untersucht den sozioökonomischen und kulturellen Wandel bei Reisbauern in Indonesien im Zusammenhang mit der Integration der indonesischen Gesellschaft in die Weltwirtschaft. Der Autor geht von der These aus, dass der Marktexpansionsprozess der globalen Ökonomie aus Bauern Pächter macht. Daher wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie dieser Prozess, aber auch die staatliche Politik der landwirtschaftlichen Modernisierung, das soziale und kulturelle Leben lokaler Bauern beeinflusst. Exemplarisch wurde hierfür ein Bauer auf Grundlage von fünf praktischen und theoretischen Kriterien als Forschungssubjekt ausgewählt: (1) Er lebt in der Nähe der größten Stadt (Jakarta); (2) er ist zwischen 30 und 50 Jahre alt; (3) er ist hauptberuflich Reisbauer; (4) er ist in formellen und informellen lokalen Organisationen engagiert und (5) er ist relativ offen gegenüber relevanten Aspekten der weltwirtschaftlichen Marktexpansion.
