The Kiowas were once, along with the fighting Cheyennes, the most feared and hated of the Native tribes of the Great Plains. In The Kiowas, Mildred P. Mayhall tells the story of their evolution from mountain dwellers to fierce Plains nomads, explains how they lived, and traces the development of their unique pictographic calendars.
