Abstract: Bruno Trentin. Lavoro, libertà, conoscenza takes into consideration the figure of Bruno Trentin (1926-2007) and his work as a union leader and politician, his numerous writings in the framework of the history of Republican Italy and the transformations induced by the processes of globalisation. From this reflection, conducted from different disciplinary angles and with different political and cultural sensitivity, what emerges clearly is the extremely idiosyncratic significance of Bruno Trentin in both the practice and the theoretical analysis of the labour struggle and the exploration of its problems. A historic contribution featuring a wealth of suggestions, intuitions and reflections, capable of interpreting events and their potential union and political repercussions, within a project for the enhancement of liberty and the social and cultural role of work conducted in an extraordinarily innovative and far-sighted manner

Abstract: In the period following the Second World War Giulio Preti was one of the leading exponents of Italian philosophy. A master of open critical thought, cultivated in the light of a rationalism that dialogued with, and integrated into his own philosophical model, many of the currents and stances of the global research scenario. Phenomenology, Marxism, pragmatism, neopositivism, transcendentalism and structuralism: in Preti all of these found an organic and original synthesis. Further, his particular brand of rationalist-critical thought touched on many aspects of philosophical knowledge: theoretical philosophy, the philosophy of science, that of language and that of art, from ethics to politics and even taking in the history of philosophy, offering authoritative contributions in every sphere. One hundred years after his birth, the University of Florence and the heir to the Faculty in which he lectured at length, the Faculty of Education, has decided to honour his memory with this anthology of studies, penned by former pupils and others and also by younger scholars, to once again focus the wealth of this thought and its, in many respects, current relevance. Even now, this particular brand of open, critical rationalism can offer a benchmark for addressing the new issues for philosophical reflection thrown up by modern society and culture

Abstract: Via verde e via d'oro. Le politiche open access dell'Università di Firenze addresses the multifaceted issue of free and open access to knowledge. Open access is a movement born in the last century with the aim of improving the dissemination of scientific knowledge. Over the last ten years, the movement has experienced a growth of interest due to the positions taken by the most important research institutes of the world, and to the legislative interventions of political and academic bodies. This publication analyses the reality of open access from the different points of view of the people who bring it to life: authors, publishers, academic world, legislators, users of knowledge, etc. The University of Florence, which is among the major players in the promotion of open access in Italy, has long been following the march in favour of open access, through the use of the green road with FLORE, its institutional repository, and of the gold road with Firenze University Press (FUP), whose publications have been available through open access since the early 2000s

Abstract: This volume, born from the collaboration of thirty-four scholars and trade union representatives, has a dual purpose. Firstly, to propose the analysis and theses on the human and political meaning of work contained in Bruno Trentin's main book La città del lavoro (2nd ed., Firenze University Press, 2014), in the current phase of social transformations and theoretical uncertainties. Secondly, to promote a reflection testing the book's fertility and topicality in order to deepen the processes at work at the start of the 21st century, in the belief that the pages written in 1997 by one of the greatest representatives of the history of the CGIL represent a 'classic' of the socio-political thought of the 20th century. The emerging result is surprising in many ways, and corresponds to the extraordinary richness of Trentin's project, as well as to the political and trade-unionist ability of its author. TUESDAY, MAY 17 Sede Nazionale della CGIL (Sala Santi) - Corso d'Italia 25 - Rome Presentation of the book "Bruno Trentin e il lavoro dopo il Novecento

Abstract: Through the commentary on a particularly interesting period taken from the Introduction to La libertà viene prima, the author intends to focus on Bruno Trentin's idea of socialism. Giovanni Mari underlines how this idea foresees the critique of four theses of the modern socialist tradition: 1) socialism is not a model of society, but a continuous process; 2) in our company the company does not constitute a world in itself; 3) the socialization of property does not solve the problems of democracy; 4) the center of civil coexistence is not constituted by the class but by the person. And four positive theses: 1) the form of political action does not foresee two separate times, first the seizure of power and then the reforms; 2) the measure of society is the freedom of the person; 3) the goal of the socialist process is the self-realization of the person; 4) everything begins with the person who works, that is, with the battle for freedom in work

Abstract: The research in this volume is based on the link between the Fourth Industrial Revolution and work. On this level, there are several questions. What is the nature of work 4.0? What is the relationship between the technological revolution and employment? What are the labour rights in the era of new business models? Can innovation be implemented without overcoming the twentieth-century subordination and the new forms of freedom and work responsibility? Do digitalisation and new forms of business organization change working relationships and favour new forms of collaboration and conflict? Are training, quality and freedom at work more important than wages? How do company planning and design relate to technology and work? Does digitalisation push knowledge-based economy to determine new forms of work? What projects need to be implemented by the involved parties (starting with the workers) for these transformations to be a step forward in working conditions and industrial relations? These and many other questions are the basis of the essays collected in this volume, born from the collaboration between authors of different backgrounds and experience: academics, journalists, entrepreneurs, managers, operators, trade unionists and trade union representatives

Abstract: The essay focuses on Trentin's theoretical elaboration and action in the European Parliament. Starting with his involvement in the "Spinelli Group," it analyzes the relationship between work and knowledge conceived as an in-depth study of the Lisbon program from the perspective of labor and its transformations. The socio-economic program, which was supposed to become an essential part of the program of the European Socialists for the 2004 elections, on which Trentin works, is analyzed in relation to his coeval writings (La libertà viene prima (2004) and the Keynote Lecture given at Ca'Foscari in 2002). The essay highlights the link between knowledge economy, lifelong learning, elements of socialism and analyzes the tools envisaged for the strengthening of a transparent economic governance, at the European level, in dialogue with the social partners capable of leading to a federal socialism
