Informative Darstellung über die karge Mittelmeerinsel, die näher an Afrika als an Europa liegt. Der Auslandskorrespondet der "Zeit" verschränkt das traurige Tagesgeschehen mit der bewegten Geschichte der Insel, die erst im 19. Jahrhundet dauerhaft besiedelt wurde. Rezension: Die karge, kleine italienische Insel im Mittelmeer, die näher an Afrika als an Europa liegt, gerät als europäischer Grenzposten gegen Bootsflüchtlinge immer wieder in die Schlagzeilen. Der Autor (zuletzt "Die Asadis", 2007), Auslandskorrespondent der "Zeit", verschränkt das traurige Tagesgeschehen mit der bewegten Geschichte Lampedusas. Das über Jahrhunderte unbewohnte Eiland, das im 18. Jahrhundert bei der Zarin Katharina II. Interesse als Flottenstützpunkt weckte und erst im 19. Jahrhundert dauerhaft besiedelt wurde, verdankt seine Befreiung von den Faschisten im 2. Weltkrieg einem beherzten britischen Bomberpiloten. Ladurner stellt auch Bezüge zur Literaturgeschichte (Shakespeare, Guiseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa) her. Mit Register.
