Abstract:
Christie Koehler (HashiCorp) takes you through the fundamentals of Terraform as she uses it to deploy cloud infrastructure live. You'll orient yourself to the current state of the infrastructure as Christie open as a cloud shell and inspects the Terraform state file, then makes some changes to the Terraform configuration, which deploys a new pod and configures a web service for that pod. Terraform plan with those changes, review the plan, and apply. Take a look with Christie at the Kubernetes dashboard to verify the changes have been made, and review and approve a pending pull request to the Terraform configuration that sets up a simple serverless app in the cloud infrastructure. As before, Terraform plan with those changes, review, and apply. Then take a look at the cloud provider dashboard to verify the serverless function or application has been deployed, and test it. If there's time, Christie will walk you through how to detect and manage drift (i.e., when infrastructure changes outside of Terraform).
