Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication gives a broad understanding of the IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager architecture and internals. The in-depth discussion covers the product's inner workings and includes log files to illustrate the processing of its various components. IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager is designed to display all aspects of the enterprise's IT system as they affect the users' business systems. This book enables easy implementation of IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager in distributed environments. Procedures are illustrated with examples of the installation and configuration process to explain the deployment of IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager into a customer's environment. This book also covers the implementation of IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager in z/OS with most of its major interfaces. IBM Tivoli Business Systems Manager can monitor all major IBM subsystems in z/OS, including IMS, DB2, CICS, storage, and Web solutions. A book about concepts and implementation would not be complete without a comprehensive discussion about using, maintaining, and troubleshooting the system. We devote several sections to these topics. Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

Abstract: The addition of WebSphere Studio Application Monitor to the Tivoli product portfolio enhanced Tivoli offerings for application management. WebSphere Studio Application Monitor enables comprehensive monitoring and management of J2EE-based applications with their back-end platforms. This IBM Redbooks publication demonstrates advanced uses of WebSphere Studio Application Monitor to solve day-to-day operational problems. The book is intended for system administrators who want to use WebSphere Studio Application Monitor for monitoring Web-based applications. We do not discuss implementation issues in this book. We present WebSphere Studio Application Monitor concepts and offer usage details such as: - System administration of day-to-day operations, from grouping and security design to maintenance tasks. - Problem determination for WebSphere-based applications to assist with common problems that may occur in your environment. - Management and analysis of composite applications, which span multiple application servers and can be hard to manage, with demonstrations of composite applications across J2EE servers, CICS, and IMS. Please note that the additional material referenced in the text is not available from IBM.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication explains the new IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Network Performance Version 2.1. This version of IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Network Performance provides a complete redesign of the z/OS TCP/IP management tools that is started by the NetView Performance Monitor for TCP/IP. IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Network Performance provides a comprehensive TCP/IP stack monitoring for z/OS. It collects performance metrics from the z/OS Communication Servers system management interface, measuring response time and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Management Information Base (MIB) variable collection. IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Network Performance uses strategic IBM software platforms such as WebSphere Application Server as the Web application platform and DB2 Universal Database as the central repository. This book starts with exploring on the architecture of IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Network Performance and its components. We also discuss various implementation scenario and evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of each scenario. Implementation planning and consideration is presented and lastly operational consideration is explained.

Abstract: This IBM® Redbooks® publication discusses IBM Tivoli® Netcool® Service Quality Manager V4.1.1 data mediation development. It is aimed at implementers and system integrators connecting new data sources that will be managed by Service Quality Manager. Data mediation in Service Quality Manager is performed by Perl gateways. Gateways extract data from vendor specific hardware monitors and prepare the data to be loaded into the Service Quality Manager application. The development aspect of data mediation for gateways uses Perl extensively. The control files or rules are written as Perl subroutines. We discuss the detailed specifications and processing of these mediation rules.

Abstract: This IBM Redbooks publication describes the IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE product family, Version 3.1.0, that runs on z/OS. We start by providing the product history over time and the terminology convention that we will use in the book, which should be noted carefully because the products are in transition from Candle terminology to the new terminology related to IBM Tivoli Monitoring Version 6.1. We conform to IBM Tivoli Monitoring V6.1 terminology as much as possible, although for some direct references to screen shots, we use the terminology that is shown in the figure. The product is installed using the IBM Configuration Tool. This is explained for new users who want to install IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE, because the process is somewhat different from standard IBM products that are installed on z/OS. The concept of runtime environment is explained here as well. On the operation side of IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE, we discuss problem determination and tracing concepts and facilities that are available for IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE, as well as performance considerations. As IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE is meant to monitor performance of the system, its overhead should not affect overall system performance. Last but not least, we offer sample usage scenarios of performance management using IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE products.
