Abstract:
This volume focuses on the psychosocial dimension of terrorism. The term psychosocial refers to the close and interactive relationship between the human psyche and the diverse social contexts in which we live. Although these chapters are diverse in their contexts and perspectives, they share a common commitment to the importance of understanding cultural variations in worldview and orientations. This commitment is neither an apology for nor an endorsement of the actions of September 11, 2001; rather, it is a recognition that unless we understand the perspectives of different cultures around the world, we, as individual human beings and as societies, will be limited and constrained in our ability to live successfully in a global community.
